SAINTS rescue 19.11.2020

It is SAINTS’ policy to be open about the reason our animals arrive at SAINTS. However, we ask that people not post negative comments (about the original home of the animal surrendered) when an animal finds it way to SAINTS. There is so much anger, negativity, and judgement on social media that we would like our message on our social media pages to be of peace, harmony, and understanding.

I just want to give you guys the same update I just gave to Nova's CAS caregivers because due to working were unable to come today. "ok..today...still peeing in his bed, looking a tiny bit more interested at some points. when removed from his crate while we are changing it, he is walking back to his crate when we are done and sitting up for a minute or two and looking around. Akita just fed him, she syringed a bit and then he ate the rest from his bowl. I gave him a handful o...f those dehydrated treats and he ate all of those on his own." Also, I did have Luna in with him for a bit, she sniffed him periodically inbetween checking out his room, she also climbed up into the chair with me while I was sitting next to him and he was interested in her. baby steps i will ask the staff tomorrow to get a picture of him here so I dont keep posting older ones. Do you guys want daily updates for now, or would you prefer less?

We apologise for deleting the comments on the previous post regarding Nova's update. There were several comments being made that were slanderous to professionals in Animal Welfare whom we respect for their professionalism, science and research based knowledge, post grad education, and their personal dedication to the welfare of animals in BC. Now for the newest update on NOVA...he is eating, we are able to give him his anti anxiety meds, his head is up and he is starting to l...ook around but he is still not venturing out of his crate.. He is totally passive to all hands on care, he is in freeze mode (which is easier to manage than fight or flight!). His caregivers from CAS continue to come every day to help him while he adjusts. This is going to be a long haul for Nova, all of us are 100% committed to helping him not only feel safe, but also find joy and happiness. See more

So it wasn't just Nova on our worry list today. Skye started colicking at noon. The vet came and tubed and med'd him. The staff walked him in the pouring rain for 5 hours. He started going down so the vet came back this evening. Skye is now back in his stall. His gut is still full of gas but he is feeling and looking better now. I think the crisis is passing. In any case we will watch him closely thru the night. Now before anyone feels too sorry for him, this might be a bit of Karma. Yesterday Skye got over excited and while he was flying and bucking around he accidently kicked one of the staff on a fly by and broke her hand, He is a Thoroughbred and occasionally he loses every rational thought in his head! Anyway, we love him and hope he is recovered from his colic now even if sometimes he acts like a toad.

Update on Nova the shut down, terrified husky. He is not doing well. Since his arrival on saturday he has not come out of his crate. he has not eaten or had anything to drink even tho there are some pretty great options within inches of him. He wont take his 3 different antianxiety meds. One of the CAS staff have come daily to help him, stay with him, bring him yummy, yummy treats which he won't eat and have pill popped his meds so at least he has gotten those. Today she is c...oming back with a prescribed appetite stimulant and to help us start syringe feeding him so he feels supported by someone he knows and loves while we start getting invasive in ensuring he gets enough to eat and drink. Nova has so many people on his side trying to help him safely get past this terrifying cliff edge that he is currently hugging. He will get there but it won't be easy for him right now. But man you just have to look into his sweet sweet eyes and know he is totally worth it. the photo below is Nova when he felt safe at his previous shelter.

We are so sorry to let everyone know that we lost Timmy yesterday. Timmy came to us as an old street cat who was quickly diagnosed with end stage kidney disease and possibly cancer. We put him on medication for his kidneys and the cancer and immediately saw an improvement. His weight went up and he started looking perkier! We knew he likely didn't have a ton of time so we made the most of what time he did have. Unfortunately our beloved boy had a seizure Thursday night. We hoped that it was a one time thing and he would recover and continue on. To our dismay he had another one Friday morning and we knew it was his time. I took Timmy down to our vets and Timmy passed away, purring in my arms. His passing was kind and gentle and that's what we always hope for. We will all miss you Timmy https://saintsrescue.ca/animals/timmy-1

After Michelle's beloved Fernando (SAINTS alumni) passed last year, she was ready again to add to her family. We were not sure if we had a match so Michelle and her son came up and met a few SAINTS. Jojo stole the show that day! After a few more meetings with the other dogs in the home, Jojo made the big move. He has now been in his very own home for just over a week. Michelle says Jojo and her son Jaden have developed a strong bond, Jojo likes to follow Jaden around the house and yard. He is settling right in. Thanks in no small part to Leila Kullar, Jojo felt safe enough to get into Michelle's car that day and has made the transition into her family. https://saintsrescue.ca/animals/jojo
