Sensory Baking today- Making Lemon Drop Cakes & Celebrating our residents birthday Citrus smells work well to perk up our residents senses!! Group Story today tapped into some positive emotion memories of times when we were young parents

Clay Sculpting was today’s creative project! Resident creations ended up better than they expected!!

Spreading more Love today from our Pen Pals- local Brownie Troupe sent us Valentines crafts, retuned our letters, and even made us a Video Kids say the darnedest things about Love and V day The fellas did a little target shooting & Kathy our Rec Aide played Piano ... was a good mix of activities today!

Many things to celebrate this time of year! We are staying safe and warm inside with Chinese New Year fortunes , Word Bingo & Adapted Bowling

Helping our folks connect with the kiddos in a traditional way and pass on the meaning of Remembrance Day through our Pen Pal Program We do miss having the kids visit in person but we are being creative during these restrictive times! Thanks to our local Brownies Troupe for taking part in our program and sending us such sweet letters! We are sending back letters and crafts from our residents

Celebrating resident birthdays today & Painting Pumpkins ! Wow!! The talent of our folks is outstanding We missed a few of our artists this time due to naps and visitors but will definitely do this again and include a new group

Seasonal pumpkin prints using apples and a little upgrade to our Fall Scene outside the dining room was enjoyed by many today! Our Rec team is awesome and our residents are truly amazing

Oktoberfest celebration over here today started with our baking program this morning, and ended with a lively afternoon filled with traditional Polka music by Jordan Rody and many Cheers Prost by our residents who clearly had a nice time together today.

Hello Everyone, We’d like to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving. In spite of all of the challenges and difficulties we have all faced over the last six months, we still find things to be Thankful for at Salem Manor. We are thankful for all the support we receive from families, friends, and our dedicated staff. We are also thankful for our many colleagues including Alberta Health Services, the Government of Alberta and Extendicare. Our Residents will enjoy a turkey d...inner, and although family gatherings in our home are not possible right now, we will make sure everyone is here in spirit. If you do choose to take your family member out for a gathering, there are risks associated with this and an assessment upon return could result in your loved on having to be isolated for 14 days. We can provide you more detail on the risks by calling our Director of Care. Take good care, and Happy Thanksgiving. Interesting Article about how playing bingo games was effective in the improvement of the cognitive level in terms of memory, thinking, orientation, language and command of older adult with dementia as shown in the result. We typically view Bingo as a "Diversional" activity more for fun but researchers are telling us it can be qualified as a Therapy Activity! October 1st- International Day of the Older Person today. A day to drop our assumptions of older folks and become aware of our Elders talents and special interests! We spent the day interviewing our folks to discover interesting info about them that we may never have expected!! We made a beautiful Flower Arrangement that will live on in our space with special messages from staff in all departments to our Residents

Celebrating Salem Manor’s 40th year Anniversary today and honouring Dr. Emil Peter Wahl who at 79 years of age was A Man of Action and Established Salem Manor Nursing Home. Today we care for the Elderly here at Salem and try to emulate Dr. Wahls spirt by encouraging our residents to live their best life until the end. God Bless you Dr. Wahl.
