An important Message from your Friendly Neighborhood Safety Specialists I have seen an alarming increase in phishing calls and emails coming through the wire to affect the good people in the Yukon Territory. If someone calls and says they represent Apple, Windows or Northwestel do NOT give out any details at all. ... I have been coming across more and more Apple and Windows computers that have been remotely accessed from the callers computer, and while doing so are being loaded with Trojan Horses or Keyboard Log virus software allowing whomever it was that contacted you to now have access to your files themselves as well as everything you type into the keyboard whether it be a secure password or log in information. Try not to fill out any surveys that require you to pay for shipping to receive their product, do not ever give out Credit Card Information unless you are sure you know the recipient is reputable. Northwestel does not ship you vitamins regardless if you have paid $10.50 for shipping using your credit card from an online survey. Please be careful out on the web as well as we all know how a jpeg picture can turn into a word of computer issues. If any of these companies really need your information they will not mind you disconnecting the call, and calling into their Customer Service Number yourself so you know everything is above board. it used to only be emails we needed to worry about but now there are so many ways to connect. Safest solution to an otherwise difficult problem: Use Pay Pal when possible as then the vendors have already been vetted and are reputable. Do not ever give out or type in your Windows Service Tag ID or Apple Disc Key. Do not give out the password for any icloud, one drive or drop box application or online storage, and never give out iTunes log in information.
