Today we had Tamara Breau out to the gallery to release her newest book, Conjure the Dreamer, an inspiring story of how her dreams became a reality with the help of a raven. Chelsea Davis also came to the gallery to chat with patrons and live paint! We had many visitors out today to celebrate our one year birthday! Thanks everyone who came out, great friends, artists, creators, supporters. The sale continues tomorrow and ends at 6pm when the draw for the basket will happen. Some talks of giant bubbles being blown tomorrow around one, might be fun, who knows!

Artist and owner of Salt fo the Earth Gallery in Entwistle has completed this extra large crowdfunded mural this past week. The project is called Painting the ...Pembina kicked off in November as a community crowd funded project. Members of the community could buy bricks as a way of contribution to the project and in return have their name be displayed on a plaque in front of the mural as a supporter. The funds cover the material and artist fee for the mural, the plaque and any fundraising that spills over those costs go directly to the Evansview, Entwistle and Grand Trunk Schools to find their art programs. Currently the project has raised over $7000.00 with the support of businesses, individuals and families in the area. The mural itself is located on the East side fo the J.D Read Memorail Building in Entwistle. It is 17x44 feet and done with exterior and aerosol paints. This is the second full wall mural artist Brie Adkins has done this year, the first in Vegreville with a similar floral theme. Brie references the Foley Trail books and made sure each element represented a regional aspect of the Pembina area. Included in this is the Alberta Wildrose, wild flowers, the Pembina river bend with the bridges. There is a Lobstick which is historically a settlers way of marking a location. An eagle for the Entwistle Eagles school team. There are rabbits as history said this area used to be over flooding with rabbits. There is also a Pembina bush or a berry bush in Algonquin terms. Bries focus for the past 5 years has been making visual art more accessible to her rural community. She does this through teaching affordable classes, representing Alberta women artist and makers and also through public art given the opportunity. The Painting the Pembina project is nearly wrapped up but there is still time to get a brick. August 30 is the deadline to support the project. The plaque will be unveiled Culture Days weekend and that is also when the schools receive their funds. Sponsors of the project on a large capacity will receive recognition and paintings during the Culture Days weekend as well. Bricks can be purchased through www.saltoftheearthgallery.com
