From September 30 to December 16, we will gather every Wednesday at 7 pm (EDT) via Zoom to reflect on Commissioner Phil Needhams book, "Christ at the Door: Biblical Keys to our Salvationist Future" and learn how to build transforming relationships with God, each other and our communities. Raise my awareness that the people who are engaged in what society sees as lowly tasks may actually be enslaved, working off debts whose interest will never allow them to be repaid. Stop me from looking the other way. Give me courage to speak, and to spot the signs. My embarrassment at being over-zealous is worth the risk, surely? I know that change has to begin with me, so dont let me be the one to ignore what is right in front of me; dont let me choose a cheap option that someone else is paying for with their freedom. This is the 21st year for our Annual August 14 Memorial. Due to COVID 19 safety considerations, unpredictable weather and no back-up building facilities (washrooms, water, rain-out), we made the anguishing decision to move the Annual Memorial to a video that will be posted on Facebook. The key element of the Memorial is Remembering. The names of those whose lives have been stolen from them, their families and communities, are spoken. Some lives were taken through murder, so...me through suicide, some through addictions triggered by traumas, and some through illnesses that are a consequence of sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, violence, homelessness and other factors associated with the sex trade. Children were disappointed when we had to tell families that camps would be closed for the season, says Major Karen Hoeft of The Salvation Army Edmonton Crossroads Community. Since April, we have been putting together activity bags and recently sent out our camp-in-a-bag to more than 110 children. This was the sixth delivery!
