This was taken exactly 1 year ago today...I can feel the Christmas cheer trying to come through the photo, but inside, all I could think about was how stressed I was about achieving my goals in 2020. For so long I withheld my joy in exchange for stress & rumination. But midway through 2020 I decided No more. No more stressing about what I can’t control, no more catastrophizing & trying to prepare for the worst, which had already co...me in the form of a worldwide pandemic, & instead-focusing on more joy, more love, & more hope. I wondered, What could my life feel like if I assumed that things would always work out? If I could live a more value-based life in exchange for my old goal-based existence? It felt lighter, easier, less pressure. Where was the pressure even coming from? No one told me I had to set those goals; and there was no prize or punishment for reaching them or not. It was all made up by, yours truly, me. So I let it go. I tried life this year without insurmountable self expectations. It wasn’t easy but I started peeling back the layers & peeking under them to see what lied beneath. Under there was my impaired self worth all tied up to my external accomplishments. And when I realized it, I suddenly felt deep compassion for myself. I wasn’t doing all of this to impress anybody else...I was doing it all to get my own approval. My coach calls it . You know the voice in your head: , ’ . The illusion, of course, is that something outside of you could give it to you. When the truth is that only YOU can give it to you. The American in me always feels a bit odd every Thanksgiving because up until my 20s, it was a very big deal. Turkey, stuffing, pumpkin piethe CASSEROLES. The football. Oh yeah, I went all in. Food coma and everything. It was, and still is, one of my favorite holidays because who doesn’t love a day completely dedicated to food and gratitude? I know we still have Canadian Thanksgiving, but it doesn’t feel the same! However, this year gratitude is something that’s been... a lot easier to find in even the small moments. Having my health and still being able to work this year, which have regrettably been taken for granted in other years, have now become daily celebrations in a world where we’ve had to adapt to the uncertainy of it all. I am loving this year’s gorgeous fall leaves AND the busy fall market ! The numbers are in, and the month of October was at near record levels for home sales and new listings. (Swipe for an OCTOBER MARKET UPDATE ) ... Covid-19 trends are continuing in the Vancouver housing market. People are evidently wanting more space & that's especially giving momentum to the single-family housing market. Detached Sales surged 43% + prices were up 8% from last year. As a result, 30% of detached homes sold above the asking price in October. Condo sales had their strongest October since 2009, and inventory has been there to meet that demand. New listings in the condo market surged 53%, which puts the condo market in a balanced market. I’ve already handed keys over to 4 ecstatic buyers this fall, and maybe it’s the November air but I’m feeling extra thankful this season. What was your most recent job before you became an entrepreneur? For me, I was in retail. (Before that, a professional ballerina) But I had just graduated at the top of my class from McGill University yet had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I felt like everyone around me had it figured out. I’d think, That guy always wanted to be a lawyer so he’s going to law school and oh yeah, that girl always knew she’d be a teacher one day. And there I was, j...ust trying to figure out what I was going to do to pay rent & now live in one of the most expensive cities in North America. Not wanting to commit to anything too serious yet, I starting working a retail job selling clothes & shoes that paid $15/hr for your typical 8 hr shifts a day. The old classic exchanging time for money. To be honest, I didn’t mind the job. I liked the girls I worked with & I could walk to the store every morning. But every day was the same. Once I’d learned everything about the store management, which took about all of 2 days, my ceiling became the floor & there was nothing left for me to learn. The best days though? They were the ones where a super friendly or cool interesting person came into the store & I was able to really connect with them. Sure, they needed shoes & anybody could help them get their size, but I don’t think anybody else could make a genuine friend out of a 5-10 min interaction like me. People would walk in & by the time they checked out, we’d have exchanged phone numbers & added each other on FB. People cried to me about their partners passing and even asked for life advice. I’d think, You’re asking me? The girl grabbing you a size Medium? But my gift wasn’t that I could I guess someone’s shoe size- it was my heartfelt communication. And I realized that no matter what I was selling, it’s not the product that matters - it’s ALWAYS the person. And although I have a true passion for real estate as a nerdy investor, my ultimate passion is people. And you’ll know that as soon as you meet me. Day 30 of #Workfromhome. Crazy, isn’t it? An entire month of staying inside, feeling confused, and wondering when it’s all going to end. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been using this precious time to re-connect with my self and take care of the back-end of my business. All the little things I always said I didn’t have time for. Of course, I’ve also had my fair share of worries and I think I speak for all of us. But here we are a month in, and I have to ask myself...How am I going to come out of this stronger? Smarter? And more prepared? Because here’s the thing - we don’t know when, but there will be a time for us all to return to our previous pace of life. We will all have a new perspective, I hope, but most things will resume as history has shown us. The stock market will bounce back, businesses will re-open, and soon we’ll be running out of time again. How can you use the time we have now to prepare or grow? WORKING FROM HOME advice! While working from home is a normal reality for me many mornings, I've still had to create routines and boundaries to ensure that I actually WORK when I’m home. 1. Wake up at the same time every morning Non-negotiable! Many don’t realize how influential our circadian rhythm is to our productivity! ... 2. Create an intentional morning practice that puts you into a positive state. Start your day proactively rather than reactively responding to your notifications and phone! I like to meditate (I use the @insighttimerapp), journal in an old-fashioned spiral notebook , or go for a run! 3. Change out of your PJs! I’m coming from experience here lol! Flannel feels like failure after a few days. Put on something nice and get to work! 4. No chores unless it’s scheduled! I’m admittedly guilty of spending 3 hours putting around my kitchen and cleaning odd spaces to feel productive. But that’s 3 hours I wasted when I could have been working! 5. Write out your schedule and activities by the hour - this ensures you don’t waste any time in between activities. I also will time block up to 2 hour chunks to dedicate to either client follow-up or creative tasks like updating my marketing and advertisements. I’m not allowed to do anything else for those 2 hours! 6. No TV or Netflix until sundown! Working from home with a partner?? i know the feeling!
