I came into contact with Yifan after she'd asked a photographer friend of mine to shoot some photos with her before her wedding. She and James will be getting married in China next month, but they wanted to have some photos done in Calgary as well. We started in town and still may shoot some in the mountains, but our mutual friend, Jawn, put us in contact because he's now in Toronto, thanks Jawn! There is 237,000 tonnes of arsenic trioxide being stored underground in chambers underneath Yellowknife’s Giant Mine; it’s enough to kill the entire world a few times over, experts say. The biggest danger humans face when it comes to arsenic trioxide is that it is highly lethal even small doses and is highly soluble -- this particular deposit is sitting on the tenth largest lake in the world. I went to Edmonton last weekend to shoot one of my oldest friends and her dance crew for an assignment for school. Rachel has been dancing as long as I've known her and it's really cool to see her take on show after show to do what she loves outside of her full time job. This show was really awesome and I wish I had been able to just watch over shoot it, but that means there's a lot of photos to go through apart from what I'm doing for school. Ben and I went to Grassi Lakes last weekend on a very lazy Sunday. We anticipated an easy walk, but I didn't really take into account the melting and refreezing. Even when the "hard way" was blocked off, the easy way was just completely ice. We ended up walking in the trees off to the side of the road which turned out to be quite the opposite of lazy. The darkroom has me spoiled. Black and white has been such a nice break from the digital world this crazy semester. I had camera problems early in the semester with my favoured Nikon N2020. My darkroom teachers told me it had probably bitten the dust, but blessed me with an FM10 that has been a dream. It was halfway through a roll when I lost the N2020, so I rolled it up and put it in the FM10. [ 169 more words ] http://www.samshots.ca/film-friday-black-and-white-from-th/

You might remember this beautiful face from a wedding party I shot in the fall. Robyn's payment for having me shooting the party was to be climbing lessons. I ended up interviewing Robyn for a feature (because she's a badass, obviously) and then this location portrait assignment came up and I thought, who better?! We went to Mount Royal last night where Robyn and her best pal Nate did a couple climbs to show me what was up before hooking me up and letting me do it myself.
