Meet this guy in my latest YouTube video. It’s a psychological workout that helps to promote mindfulness, cognitive flexibility and resilience. Only takes five minutes to do and produces great results, especially when done daily. Link is in the bio. Enjoy! _______________________ #beanie #office #psychology #guesswho #youtube #psychologistsofinstagram #psychologist #youtubechannel #fitness #video #workout #cognitive #mentalhealth #flexible #psychologicalfitness #mentalworkout #brainhealth #recovery #addiction #yyc #yeg #alberta #canada #paigeabbott #sana_psyc

We ask each other this question of, "How are you doing?" all the time. In fact, it has become so commonplace it is now a greeting that many people will use. As a bit of a side note, this is something that irks me because when this question is used as a greeting, I find that people are not really caring about the answer.... https://holisticpsychologycalgary.wpcomstaging.com/how-are/

Does someone you know and love have Addiction? My latest YouTube video is on how you can navigate this in the healthiest way possible. Link in bio. ____________________ I know navigating this world is tricky. I grew up with Addiction in my family and a lot of my coping was to ignore and hide. At the same time, though, I did learn how to journal, introspect, listen to intuition, find comfortable relationships, look after my physical health, and be an empathetic psychologist... out of it so I’m grateful for that which I wouldn’t have asked for. What opportunities in disguise are you comfortable disclosing on here? If not the challenge then the benefit(s) that came out of it. _______________________ #grateful #gratitude #addiction #addictionrecovery #addictionawareness #family #lovedones #support #empathy #opportunity #mentalhealth #youtube #video #linkinbio #yyc #canada #alberta #psychologistsofinstagram #therapist #boundaries #empathy #sharing #paigeabbott #sana_psyc See more

My grandfather played for the military band. Growing up I found this idea to be so strange- music and fighting seemed juxtaposed to me. Perhaps this was the point, though. Music mood alters and was used to impact the minds and hearts of the people who were training or at war. I now think it’s pretty neat that my grandfather was able to use his passion for music to help others find inspiration, hope, and energy. My grandfather died five years ago so we can’t talk about this. I... would like to hear more about his perspective now if I could but, instead, I’ll reflect and connect to the feelings and memories I have. Pictured here is a saxophone as that was his primary instrument, but he also played clarinet, piano, accordion and probably anything he picked up. He taught me how to make noise on my clarinet (it’s much harder then it looks) and entertained me with the accordion (also a challenging instrument). Although I’m not personally connected to anyone who was significantly part of the wars, we are all impacted and Remembrance Day has always held a special place in my heart. _______________________ #lestweforget #remembranceday #remember #veterans #memorial #canada #canada #saxophone #musician #grandparent #military #music #yyc #alberta #together #lovenotwar See more

I my home away from home (aka my office). After a few months I feel really settled into the space and client feedback tells me they feel the same! _________________________ Despite my enjoyment of the space, work-life balance remains my priority so I’m taking tomorrow off. I’m planning to have a girly shopping trip with my daughter to have something special and different to do. The past few months has been really weird and challenging for my family but I’m committed to tak...ing action to remind myself that things are settled now and I can let my shoulders come down. _________________________ What is a favorite special activity of yours? __________________________ #gratitude #selfcare #worklife #worklifebalance #balance #workingmom #paigeabbott #sana_psyc #yyc #yeg #alberta #psychologistsofinstagram #mama #office #officedesign #officedecor #therapy #therapist #life #enjoyment #fun #hobbies See more

I was reminded of this term reading an article about how we can move away from worrying about others’ perceptions of us. Radical acceptance is a beautiful and powerful psychological concept that I encourage (and try to practice) often, even though I may not be labeling it as such. __________________ What is it? It’s acceptance of reality. Period. Simple, right? Not so much. It means acknowledging our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and circumstances as real. We do not have to... like them, we simply recognize they are real. This is opposed to avoidance, escape, numbing, minimizing, or distracting, which our brains are very good at. _________________ How do we practice radical acceptance? We acknowledge, we recognize, we affirm, we accept, and we move forwards. Self-care tools, recovery work, professional support, talking, and more can also help us along the way. ____________________ #acceptance #mentalhealth #recovery #boundaries #radicalacceptance #paigeabbott #sana_psyc #yyc #yeg #alberta #canada #psychology #health #gratitude See more

Doing things that promote blain plasticity is important for mental health. This can look like puzzles or games that stimulate the mind; taking different routes when going places; taking up new hobbies; or talking to others about a variety of topics. People who are vulnerable to Addiction (so a family history) are particularly at risk of brain rigidity and unhealthy attachment to people, places, things, thoughts, feelings. Taking steps to a diverse health platform can be both a proactive and reactive step. _____________________________ #mentalhealth #cognition #rigid #thinking #patterns #loops #thoughts #diversity #flexible #change #paigeabbott #sana_psyc #hope #growth #brainhealth #brainplasticity #shift #shiftyourmindset #yyc #yeg #alberta #psychologistsofinstagram #canada #future #healing #health
