This is the first WKC World Championships after I lost my first fight. I didn’t win a fight for two years and didn’t win a Gold Medal until my fourth World Cham...pionship. After losing I didn’t talk to anybody for days because I was so upset. People don’t see the struggle or pay attention to it, they just notice the success. But greatness doesn’t happen overnight, it’s a process. Having parents and an instructor that understood this and put no pressure on me helped me reach where I am today.

We’re all here for this moment. The moment we get to present ourselves to the judges and show them how hard we’ve been training all year long. However, the more... worlds we attend and the more competitors we see, the more we realize that it’s so much more than that. The sense of community and camaraderie grows stronger and stronger every single year. To see friendships built and maintained from across the world embodies the WKC spirit. To see parents, athletes and coaches love and support each other regardless of the country they wear on their uniforms is the epitome of martial arts. Don’t ever lose sight of the big picture. We are ALL champions. It’s about community over competition. Thank you for building this community with us. See more
