Day 7 - Backcountry Bike Pack - Gwyneth Lake > Lizzie Creek Rec Site - 113km, 953m . .<< It's been a while since I left off recounting my first bike packing adventure of the summer back in July. >> . .On day 7, I left lovely Gwyneth Lake and completed my climb of the Hurley Pass, still on high alert for grizzlies. When I started the descent , the road got super rough and I picked up a front puncture from hitting a loose rock with my front tire. I fixed it with plugs and co...ntinued. I finally stopped for lunch at a viewpoint that gave me an unobstructed vista of the Pemberton Valley. . .I felt a bit hurried, as I still had a lot of ground to cover, so I chundered down towards Pemberton Meadows and rode tempo when I finally hit the heavenly smooth tarmac. The road into town seemed to stretch forever as I pedaled through the flat farmland. . .After leaving Pemberton behind, I followed Lillooet Lake along In-SHUCK-cha FSR and was directed to mosquito infested Lizzie Creek Rec Site on the shores of the lake by my mom, who was walking up the road towards me. Back to the grind and I'm loving it. After taking most of the summer and fall to ride my bike as the mood struck me, I kinda forgot how tired I get with structured training. Even though I rode a LOT, I naturally backed off, rested or did shorter rides when I felt tired. I guess that's how "normal" cyclists roll. And that's how they manage to work full time and do other important things. Returning to structured training after such a long break is giving me a fresh perspect...ive and renewed motivation, too (hopefully I can hang onto this vibe as the weather gets colder and yuckier). I love this lifestyle, despite finding myself rather useless at performing simple tasks when I hit week three of a build. Let's do this! And yes, both the photo and my helmet are tilted... as I said, "simple tasks". #MyBrava #LivRacing #LivCommitted #HowWeLiv #LivCycling

#Flashback to BC Bike Race Class of 2009! It feels like a lifetime ago that Steve and I did the BC Bike Race together, supported by Barry & Jean Ann. Lots of it are fuzzy, but some bits I'll never forget. Not all of the memories are good ones, with both of us riding injured, but finishing the epic week of nonstop singletrack was well worth it. I haven't had the opportunity to do it again, but a chance at redemption is on my list. Earlier this fall, a select crew of athletes ...and community icons took part in a BCBR Showcase event. The preview tour of the 2021 route brought back positive recollections of what BCBR is really about -- sweet trails and rad people, all day, everyday.
