Happy new year from all of us at the Sandstone Ranch! We had the pleasure to spend another year doing what we love, surrounded by amazing animals and great friends both old and new. Thank you all for your continued support. We hope everybody is staying warm out there!
Feeling pretty lucky to be a horse trainer right now. We get the most beautiful office this time of the year.
Hope everybody is staying cool in this heatwave. Early morning and late night rides, afternoon siesta's and "the water trail" have been our go to's this week. Here is Ochre going for her first swim. Though it was refreshing, I'm not sure if she enjoyed quite as much as Devon did watching and videoing us.
We packed up the ponies and headed for the hills last weekend. As they say: the mountains were calling and we had to go! So glad we did, we ran into our friend Donald from Three Peaks outfitters who guided us to some of the amazing sights Cadomin has to offer. He is offering trailrides for all levels of experience, all summer long, so if you're looking for a beautiful family experience be sure to give him a call!
This big gentle giant called Rip went home after spending 30 days with us. We were told he got his name because he is tall, dark and handsome (yellowstone reference for those who don't know). But we secretly think almost ripping your pants everytime you try to get on might have something to do with it
Happy Thanksgiving! We hope everybody had a great long weekend. We are thankful for beautiful fall weather, good horses and great clients. Thank you for the continued business and support, especially in a year with as many uncertainties as this one. You guys rock!
The extra moisture this year has created a perfect growing condition for the weed commonly known as mares tail. Less commonly known is the toxicity it can cause in horses. Symptoms can start with slight uncoordinated movements but if left untreated can progress to extreme balance issues and eventually cause the horse to pass away from exhaustion. Be sure to inform yourself, check your hay and warn others. The more we are aware, the better we can help our horses. http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca//lives/horses/facts/07-037.htm
When it storms so hard, you find all the poles as well as the donkey down the next day.
