The centre will offer mental health and addiction services where patients can choose to either use a cultural/traditional approach, a contemporary clinical approach, or a combination of the two. ...In order to change some of the health outcomes of Indigenous people, a system approach needs to be taken to shift some of the ways that Indigenous people have been trying to cope with intergenerational trauma.

Why didn’t they just leave? Why didn’t they just stop doing ? Harm reduction requires us to widen the lens from our personal experience, and to not jump to judgement or assumption. Understanding harm reduction means understanding the profound impacts of disrupted attachment with primary caregivers, understanding the ongoing cost of unresolved trauma, understanding the costs of poverty, neglect, ministry-school-prison pipeline, violence and systemic oppression and how a...ll of these early experiences impact and shape future relationships, families, income, employment, and health outcomes (check out the ACEs to learn more). Be kind. We know very little of what people are carrying. Work on widening your lens. Harm reduction is based on a knowingness that actions are rooted in more than ‘bad decisions’. #harmreductionsaveslives #harmreduction #wideningthelens #aces #trauma #sanguenhealthcentre See more

Hey Guelph & County Area! A working group from @wg_drugstrategy has been researching the details of bringing drug checking to our area. Here is a very cool infographic about general info of drug checking, exploring pros & cons of using different technologies, how drug checking will benefit our community and offer more support and safety to all the different folx who use substances. Just a note that we are still in the exploration stage, but we wanted to share this info with you all. Have you heard about drug checking? Give this a read to learn more. #wgds #wellingtonguelphdrugstrategy #drugchecking #infographic #themoreyouknow #guelph #wellingtoncounty

Overdose while using uppers can look like a seizure, stroke or heart attack, so knowing seizure first aid is really important! Please do not attempt to put ANYTHING in a seizing person’s mouth! A lot of folks have really outdated info about this, *nothing* in their mouth, they will not choke on their tongue, we promise. Make sure the person is not smacking their head as they seize, a folded up hoodie or jacket works great, do not force the person into recovery position whil...e in full seizure, wait until it has subsided. Call for help. Crowd control- make sure people are being respectful (not filming). A blanket or jacket post seizure is helpful and can help preserve dignity. Explaining quietly, post-seizure, that they had a seizure and help is coming, and that if it’s ok, you are going to sit with them is awesome. Posted @withregram @tripproject Seizures look really scary, but they are possible with certain types of drug use including stimulants. It's a way that our body says ENOUGH! If someone is having a seizure, prevent them from hurting themselves, and only move them if absolutely necessary (if they are in the middle of the road or somewhere they can fall from), call 911 and time the seizure for the paramedics. #seizure #seizurefirstaid #uppers #stimulants #overdoseawareness #firstaid #harmreduction #harmreductionsaveslives

"Managed alcohol programs improve the lives of drinkers, according to researchers at the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research at the University of Vict...oria. They studied one of the programs in Thunder Bay, Ont., (there are 14 across Canada now) and found that participants experienced improvement in housing, mental and physical well-being, reductions in alcohol-related harms, decreasing non-beverage alcohol use and more stable patterns of drinking. Participants said they experienced 40 to 80 per cent fewer police contacts and hospital and detox admissions. Hirsh said with the PHS program some people find a starting point to moderate their drinking and some even go into detox and recovery."

Addressing basic human needs and building care networks in people’s lives is the first step in increasing health equity, and therefore, reducing harm, addressing HIV and HCV.

THIS! Let’s do away with the culture of needing to be convinced of others’ worthiness, of their believability. When someone shares their experience (typically someone NOT of the dominant paradigm, I might add) WHY is it normal for it to be on them to convince us of the truth of their experience?? That’s some real dominant paradigm bs and gaslighting right there, and a way to keep oppressed groups oppressed. Shift the lens. De-centre your experience. Understand intersectionality. #yourlensisnttheworld #decentreyourself #believepeople #harmreduction #harmreductionsaveslives

Posted @withregram @capudofficial How do you decide to consume your substances? People need to use different routes of administration and different types of substances. There’s no wrong or right answer, people know what works for them. People need a safe drug to use, a safe place to use it with options of routes of administration. #SafeSupplyNow

Posted @withregram @harm.reduction.saves.lives @h.a.r.m_l.e.s.s Today is International Drug Users Day. It's a day to celebrate PWUD and affirm our rights. This year has not been an easy one. So many beautiful humans in my life have lost their lives to overdose. Every single one of those deaths could have been prevented, and highlights the failure of drug policies. So today I call on everyone to donate to your local harm reduction orgs and drug user unions, contact you...r representatives at all levels of government, take direct action to make a positive change for the lives of drug users, and hug your loved ones extra tight. . . . #internationaldruguserday #idud #harmreduction #harmreductionsaveslives #harmreductiontips #safesupply #safesupplynow #supplyorwedie #decriminalize #pwud #peoplewhousedrugs #drug #drugs #dope #overdosecrisis #endoverdose #bcpoli #cndpoli #supportdontpunish #breakthestigma #endthestigma #substanceusedisorder #awareness #education #compassion #drugpolicy #drugpolicyreform #nomoredrugwar #endthedrugwar #endthewaronpeoplewhousedrugs

Posted @withregram @unapologeticallysurviving : @crazyheadcomics You are, and will always be, your longest friend. It's easy to be hard on ourselves: whether we're talking down on ourselves because we haven't healed "fast enough" or we're having trouble unlearning problematic behaviors/patterns. But... what if... we were nice to ourselves instead? What if every time we started to be hard on ourselves we paused and asked ourselves "how would I respond to my best... friend if they were telling me they felt this way?" Who can you talk to when you're being hard on yourself and need someone to remind you about all the reasons you're worthy of love? Who benefits from you not loving yourself fully? (No one!) What is one way you will be nicer to yourself? Which of these self-love methods do you show yourself? How do you show yourself love? #believesurvivors #abuse #trauma #vulnerability #notalone #yourenotalone #itsokaynottobeokay #mentalhealthquotes #itgetsbetter #traumasurvivor #traumarecovery #healingtrauma #supportsurvivors #sexualassault #sexualabuse #emotionalhealth #selfhealers #soulgrowth #mindsetshift #youareworthy #mentalhealthart #wordsofaffirmation #wordsofencouragement #youmatter #positiveselftalk #selfpreservation #mefirst #toxicrelationships #protectyourenergy #protectyourpeace
