Halfway into Eating Disorders Awareness Week in Canada and I love seeing all of the different messages being created and shared Its wonderful seeing that perhaps there is more awareness of eating disorders and the deep suffering they cause. However, there are still so many myths that remain, and often that come along with increased awareness as well. I love these Myths Vs. Truths that Vancouver Island Voices for Eating Disorders @vanislevoicesforeds created. ... Heres to a year of more and more awareness, compassion, understanding, love and support for one another See more

For anyone looking or who knows of someone looking for meal support for their recovery and where other options may not be financially feasible, I wanted to post about Heal at Homes virtual group meal support option. They have found a way to offer group meal support via video for a much lower cost than other meal support services that I am aware of. You can explore their website and reach out to Sophie, the founder, for more information! https://www.healathome.co/virtual-meal-support/

During the holidays especially, self-compassion can be so needed. So grateful to get to collaborate with Sophie and her amazing team at @healathome, and to get to talk about self-compassion and to give some simple exercises that can be used in our everyday lives. Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season filled with as much love, joy, self-care and self-compassion as possible... A healthy relationship with food starts at a young age, but it is so often not intuitive how to help young ones to develop this! Im so excited that two amazing dietitian colleagues have started this private practice together focusing on helping families and caregivers to create supportive feeding environments. Theyre also running a workshop on August 10th! So glad practitioners like this are in the world

Im so grateful to have gotten to speak with Tabitha Farrar Eating Disorder Recovery Coach on her amazing podcast that has reached and helped so many people. I loved speaking with Tabitha. Shes so full of passion and understanding when it comes to eating disorders, and I had a wonderful time speaking with her about my journey, what helped each of us recover, how I got into recovery coaching, spirituality on the recovery journey (and what it means to each of us, whether we call it by that name or not), and more. You can listen to this episode, and all of her other amazing episodes, here: https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-puh3x-a2cd64

The holidays are not always festive and dont always feel jolly. Often, theyre filled with anxiety, sadness, loneliness, wistfulness, yearning, grief, and so many other feelings that feel painful, but in addition to that, bring extra suffering because we feel bad for feeling this way when we feel like everyone around us is happy, or that we should be happy. Not only do painful feelings and difficult things we are going through not go away because its the holidays, b...ut often they feel even harder, for so many reasons. As hard as this can be, do your best to have compassion for yourself and for how hard the holidays can be, and also, know that you are not alone (despite what social media and smiling faces in crowds may make us believe). What you are going through is so valid. I hope this season is a time of getting through, of surviving, and of finding any compassion, gentleness, and comfort for yourself that youre able to.

A really good read for parents, teachers, or anyone involved in health and nutrition education for children. With so much conflicting information about health, diet and weight out there, it can be hard to know what to say or recommend to children. In my previous work as a dietitian with my young clients I saw the harm that could be done though. A very well-written article by dietitian Leslie Schilling.

So grateful to be part of The Looking Glass Foundations #SelfCareSunday today. Sometimes, for me, self care looks like letting things go and resting instead, and sometimes it looks like committing to a challenging but manageable goal that will move me forward in a good direction. What is one challenging but manageable goal you can commit to starting now?... Looking Glass Foundation for Eating Disorders

I received this from an eating disorder list Im on, and wanted to share. As simple as they seem, Ive found that mantras that resonate with me or clients can be surprisingly powerful for grounding and calming down anxious, runaway thoughts and feelings. Its neat seeing specific ones that others recommend and use.

New blog post Body image can be such a difficult thing to heal for anyone in our culture, let alone for someone recovering from an eating disorder, where the body and ones perception of it are so laden with meaning. . There are many books and workbooks written about body image (the Gurze-Salucore website has a comprehensive list), but here I share what helped me the most, as it was often others who had recovered, and then shared what helped them, that helped me the most. ... . I hope this post helps who it can as well . https://sarahrzemieniak.com/six-practices-body-image/ See more
