We've been feeling the growing enthusiasm for bombers; racers getting their cars track ready, buying and building new cars, wondering where all of the donor cars will come from (they’re getting harder to find for some).. It’s clearly the most inquired about class so far this winter! That's encouraging because a bomber class come-back at Saratoga means a lot to racing on the Island! When Carol and I raced here with Mike D and BJ, Rob and Brad and the Larson Family and all th...Continue reading

Happy New Year Racers! We’re wishing all the Saratoga Speedway enthusiasts a safe, happy, and race-ready 2021!! Work has resumed on the speedway infrastructure and we have some notifications and small announcements to pass on and get this season started! At this time we are keeping a close eye one the Health Authority’s vaccine roll-out plans and watching for changes to the restrictions. We have a tentative schedule developed however we are not yet ready to publish it as the... return to racing is still too difficult to predict. In the mean-time we’ve been working on some marketing initiatives and community outreach that should help get the ball rolling when restrictions are eased!! 1. Calling all cars: we’re looking for some hardware to show off; some well kept race cars of any and every class to display in public. If anyone has a racer that’s race-ready, clean and sparkling (hasn’t been any racing since September 2019) We are reaching out to Mall operators in the region to set up a display to show off our cars and our program to the public! Here’s your chance to show your sponsor that you mean it when you say you’ll show-off their logo to fans everywhere!! Interested racers contact Carol or Pat during working hours at Saratoga. 2. When we are able to open the racetrack for practice there will be several administrative functions for everyone. Race-team registration, individual Hero-Shots that all home-track racers will be required to pose for in their pit or on the winners circle, safety tech inspections required prior to any cars entering the newly-refurbished track. 3. There will be some more re-developed rule books published this week or early next week, keep your eyes on the website: general rules, Crash to Pass and Mad max are next!! Christmas is nearly here and RaceCeivers are being picked up, the work on the track progressing by amazing and dedicated crews in spite of the wet season! Today’s rules amendment involves Bomber Engines once more. Effective immediately decking of blocks to ensure machine finish and level decks in the Bomber class is approved. Keep in mind changing deck dimensions create several new points of concern such as clearances, intake position, pushrod length etc. and exposes the decked engine to higher risk of detonation. We hope to be able to publish more updated rules before the end of the week.

Hey Bombers and Hornets: very impressive return time on our recent rules updates! Your input has been noted we thank you for pointing out some issues; we appreciate your engagement! This is how things should work when our community sees an issue or potential problem they let us know; we in turn research the issue right away and take action if necessary or make explanation of our stand on the issue. In this case we had made VORTEC heads legal for Bomber cars. Considering the...ir low-cost, increased performance, and great availability it was considered as an inexpensive allowance and has been requested by several racers. Unfortunately the use of VORTEC heads developed more issues than they solve... Intake manifold replacement being only one of those issues. We don’t want to get into the world of after-market horse power because then things become much more expensive and controversial! We are amending the Bomber rule to exclude VORTEC Heads effective immediately. Also pointed out was a discrepancy and an omission in the Hornet rules regarding the safety cage improvements: 1.75 inch min. OD pipe is legal throughout Hornet car cage construction (though we recommend 2 inch OD pipe) and all pipe to be minimum wall thickness of 0.095 (though we recommend 0.120). CTP, Mad Max and General rules are coming out soon.. sharpen your pencils Summer Nights under Racetrack Lights
