The Ministry of Education’s Hats Off to You contest showcases the determination and work of women enrolled in a vocational training or technical training progra...m, or a bachelor’s program in science or technology that leads to a career in a traditionally male-dominated occupation. This year’s GRAND PRIZE WINNER of 5,000$ is CATHERINE VACHON, a student in the Carpentry program at ConstrucPlus Vocational Training Centre. Catherine is the only woman in her Carpentry cohort. From the instant she visited the Centre’s modern facilities at the open house, she reconnected with her passion for carpentry. Scott Jesty, one of Catherine’s teachers told us that the first time he met Catherine, he knew she was not like any other student. Catherine always finds a way to balance her full-time school schedule with her work schedule and is always available to stay at the centre and work on her projects. to the point that her teachers had to tell her to go home. She is hardworking, determined, and motivated. Nothing can stop her. She will be one remarkable carpenter; not only because of her talent but because of her positive attitude and her personality. This prestigious prize is awarded by the Ministry of Education. This year is the first year that the Chapeau les Filles recipients could not be present at the annual gala held at the National Assembly to receive their prizes because of COVID-19. But rest assured, the Ministry has confirmed that they made sure she receives her prize and trophy by mail. Dear Riverside community, ***Latest update Premier Legault just confirmed that it is unlikely that there will be a return to class on March 30. ... We are looking to see if we can target the beginning of May. Distance and online education may prove difficult for young children. Clearer directives will be communicated in the upcoming days. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are receiving many questions regarding school closure. "What about after the 2-week closure?" "Will we be closing for more than two weeks?" Etc. Please know that we are in daily contact with our colleagues from the Government to assess the situation as it evolves. At this point, we have no indication about the end, or not, of the shutdown. Rest assured that, as soon as we hear anything, we will communicate it with our population.
