Mountain View Search and Rescue 11.05.2022

Mountain View Search and Rescue greatly appreciate receiving the Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Grant from FireSmart Canada for the 2022 May long weekend. We use the grant to pay for fuel which enables us to conduct FireSmart principals such as removing the understory and maintaining the grass height at the site where we set up our SAR Base. Mountain View Search and Rescue is operated by volunteer, unpaid professionals and it is extremely important to us to receive grants so that we can continue to serve the community.

On Nov. 25, 2021, at approximately 7:13 AM, #Sundre RCMP responded to a call of a person possibly in medical distress in the Forestry Trunk Road area. Sundre RC...MP responded and located the vehicle belonging to the person at approximately Marker 61, abandoned. The RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) was called in to assist and arrived on scene at approximately 11:45. At noon, approximately 15 minutes after starting to track, the person, a female in her 50’s, was located by PDS approximately one kilometer into the woods at a higher elevation. The female was able to walk out with assistance from police. She was then transported by police to a local hospital for further assessment and treatment. Police Service Dog Hoss is a 6-year-old German Shepherd who is from the RCMP breeding program in Innisfail, Alta. In addition to tracking and arresting criminals, K-9’s with RCMP PDS, are trained in search and rescue operations, as well as drug or explosives detection!
