"Diwali is the South Asian celebration of light over darkness, of good over evil. And in a normal year, celebrations in Vancouver alone can draw crowds of 7,000 to 10,000 people. But this year, like so many things, the festival will look different."
Our friends and LIP Council member at the French Community Center are hosting a drive-in movie event next week, on November 6th and 7th! Check out the poster for more details :)
LIP staff recently tuned in to this fascinating talk and we wanted to share it with all of you - listen in to learn more about inclusion and exclusion in Canadian society, particularly in regards to Indigenous populations, newcomers and racialized individuals "Various groups in Canada are stigmatized in ways that make them vulnerable to discrimination. In some cases, this takes the form of dehumanization: a perception that members of the group are somehow deficient in humani...ty, and hence not owed the universal human rights that arise from our common humanity. In other cases, members of a group may be seen as deficient in their commitment to Canada as fully human, but not fully Canadian and hence not deserving of the citizenship rights that attach to being a full member of society. This Big Thinking lecture will explore both forms of stigmatization, discuss their powerful effects, and identify the distinct challenges each raises to the Canadian model of diversity." See more

We found this article after Thanksgiving but we still wanted to share it :)
What a wonderful idea :) "Almost every weekday, Sarnia’s Lucienne de Vries flies a different flag from a flagpole in her front yard, and it’s become a neighbourhood head-turner." https://www.facebook.com/thesarniajournal/posts/1470439596477071
