‘Visitors’ in Canada can now apply for work permits Covid allows in-country applications now. Visitors currently in Canada can now apply for employer-specific work permits without having to leave the country. This temporary policy takes effect immediately until further notice and is intended to get visitors with job offers working as soon as possible for the Canadian employers who need them. https://canadian-visa-lawyer.com/covid-changes-allow-visit/

Paper-based family sponsorship applications delayed Application mired in a backlog IRCC has failed to modernize the visa application system for the Family Class, a paper-based application system to sponsor parents and grandparents, children and spouses for permanent residency based on their relationship to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident sponsor. These account for more than 25% of the total number of new PR’s in any given year. https://canadian-visa-lawyer.com/delays-expected-for-paper/

Express Entry in the time of a global pandemic There have been numerous Covid-19 Canadian immigration casualties Prior to Covid-19 the established pattern of selection was to provide a twice monthly open draw to all four Express Entry categories: the Federal Skilled Worker ( FSW); the Canadian Experience Class (CEC); the Federal Skilled Trades Program ( FSTP) and the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). This pattern was altered on March 18, 2020 when the Express Entry draws began issuing alternate draws for PNP and CEC applicants only. https://canadian-visa-lawyer.com/express-entry-in-the-time/

Canada’s business immigration programs remain limited Start-up visa and self-employed are two options The options for prospective business immigrants to Canada have diminished significantly over the years. From 2002 up until 2012, Canada’s business immigration program consisted of the Investor, Entrepreneur and Self-Employed classes. The Investor class required a passive investment. The Entrepreneur class required a business applicant to make a significant investment in either a newly established or a purchased and enhanced Canadian business which they then operated. https://canadian-visa-lawyer.com/canadas-business-immigrat/

Visas and permits: what’s the difference? In this COVID-19 environment, international travel has been impacted. One of the biggest challenges in my work as an immigration lawyer is to simplify the immigration process and make it easy to understand for somebody who has little to no experience with immigration matters. This can be difficult at times because there are many terms and phrases that exist in Canadian immigration law that have no meaning for the average person. In working with clients, I have found that many of them use the terms visas and permits interchangeably as though they mean the same thing. https://canadian-visa-lawyer.com/visas-and-permits-whats-t/

Immigration via humanitarian and compassionate grounds Applicants need to present significant evidence of the positive contributions they bring to Canada H&C applications have been described by our courts as an exceptional remedy, which allows immigration officers to grant permanent residence in circumstances that would excite in a reasonable [person] in a civilized community a desire to relieve the misfortunes of another. These applications are not meant to be made by people who have other means of applying for permanent resident status. https://canadian-visa-lawyer.com/winning-immigration-on-hu/
