Remember, it's the law. SSA designated trail is for snowmobile use only between December 1st and April 15th. The fine for operating a motor vehicle other than a snowmobile on a designated trail between December 1 and April 15 is $150 for the first offence and $250 for the second offence. Not only is it illegal, it's unsafe. Our trails are groomed to accommodate snowmobiles, allowing for you to safely pass oncoming traffic. Many of our trails are simply not wide enough to accommodate an ATV, side by side, or tracked vehicle should you happen to meet one.

Prairie Women on Snowmobiles urgently needs you! To continue with our Mission to raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment equipment in 2022, we are ...urgently looking for an executive team. President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer team members will be mentored by our outgoing executive. Mission 2021 has been canceled, so now is a perfect time to learn about our Missions and prepare for Mission 2022 Without an executive team in place, our Missions are in jeopardy. PLEASE RESPECT PRIVATE PROPERTY. Stay on trail unless you have permission to ride off trail. Leaving the trail while crossing someone's property is trespassing. We know off trail riding is a big part of snowmobiling, and it can be a lot of fun; but it needs to be done safely, responsibly, and legally. Contact landowners if you'd like to ride off trail. Otherwise for everyone's sake, and for the future of our trails, PLEASE stay on the trail.

The Sno’Drifters are regularly grooming the trails since December 28th. Our goal is to groom every trail at least once a week. Watch the SSA interactive maps t...o learn which trails were groomed and when. SSA Trail Map (evtrails.com). Remember that grooming may be halted by weather that is too cold or too warm, or too little snow. Why did we wait for the end of December to start? The mild winter with early, heavy snow definitely delayed the formation of stable ice on the lakes, marshes and river crossings. Four other Saskatchewan clubs had groomers go through the ice this year, a calamity this is dangerous and expensive. We monitored ice conditions almost daily before our groomer ventured out. and the wait was worth it! Safe riding! Enjoy! Checking Ice depth with chain saw.

Operating your snowmobile at night can be just as much fun as operating during the day. However, the obvious reduction in visibility, outside of daylight hours, creates a need for extra precautions. Before heading out on a night ride, the first thing you will need to do is make sure that your headlights, taillights and brake lights are all working properly. If any of the lights on your snowmobile are not fully functional, you should not head out. It is always a good idea to h...ave extra bulbs packed, just in case a lighting problem happens on the trail. Operating at excessive or unsafe speeds may cause you to override your headlights. Overriding your headlights essentially means that the very moment you begin to brake, your headlights are not yet illuminating (you cannot see) the area where your snowmobile will finally come to a stop. Generally, the effectiveness of snowmobile headlights is about 60 meters (200 feet). Under normal weather and trail conditions the limit of reaction time and stopping distance for 60 meters is reached when traveling at a speed of 65 kilometers per hour. This means that at speeds greater than 65 km/h or in poor conditions you may not yet be able to see the area where you will actually come to a stop when you hit the brakes. It's also worth noting that many accidents are caused by focusing on the taillights of the snowmobile ahead of you. By focusing solely on the taillights, you may not notice slight turns in the machine that indicate the rider is avoiding a collision or an object on the trail. Here are some safety precautions to take next time you ride at night: -Make sure your lights work properly, are clean, and are free of snow. -Don't travel in unfamiliar areas. -Stay on established trails. Don't blaze a new trail in the dark. -Always carry a flare or flashlight for emergency signaling. -Always ride in a group of two or morenever alone. -If you stop, pull off the trail so that you won't be a hazard to others. All this information and more can be found in our snowmobile safety course. You can save $15 on our online safety training course right now, until January 23rd, using promo code SAFETYSASK https://www.snowmobilecourse.com/canada/saskatchewan

Before you go out and ride Saskatchewan there are few things you should know: -Anyone born on or after January 1, 1989 must complete a snowmobile safety course. Visit https://sasksnow.com/safety/ to learn more. -Register your snowmobile, without it you do not have access to trails or public land and you are not eligible for liability insurance. Learn more about your registration at https://sasksnow.com/registration/... -Don't ride impaired! Riding drunk or high carries the same penalties as driving a car while impaired. -There are currently COVID-19 protocols in place for all snowmobile trails and shelters. Pack a mask, hand sanitizer, avoid social gatherings, and always maintain a social distance. Learn more at https://sasksnow.com/covid/ -Always know where you are going. Plan your trip, let someone know where you're headed and when you'll be back, don't ride alone, and always respect private property.
