STAY HEALTHY - PROTECT YOURSELF WITH A FLU SHOT
#standupforpositiveaging STAYING ACTIVE AT HOME . Keeping physical distancing from others does not mean that you still cannot be active. It is so good for your mind, your body and your spirit. And these days it is so important to keep busy and stay active. If you need a few ideas to stay active, stay safe and keep your distance, please check out this video link. https://www.csp.org.uk//st/staying-strong-you-age/strength
#standupforpositiveaging Saskatchewan's older population continues to grow. Older people are not a burden - they are contributors in every community! A plan is needed to keep older people healthy, happy and able to continue their contributions. #Saskatchewan needs a plan! https://youtu.be/vPa11E2lG2k
#standupforpositiveaging ACCESSIBLE & AFFORDABLE HOME SERVICES AN INVESTMENT NOT A COST! Older adults require accessible and affordable housing and services plus strong community connections. Without suitable housing and services for all, municipalities risk losing the social backbone of their communities, as well as the key financial resources that older residents control. As people age, they need some support to live independently and safely in their homes. Practical su...pport for yard and home maintenance, transportation and help with shopping can make a huge difference. Older adults live healthier, happier lives. Reducing the number of seniors needing long term care by months and/or years saves all taxpayers money. WHO COULD DELIVER THESE SERVICES? Programs could be developed to provide an accessible pool of workers that older adults can trust. Services would be provided by volunteers, paid staff and contract staff. Costs could be subsidized according to income. These kinds of programs in other countries confirm that beyond doubt, older adults want this! Can provincial and municipal governments find ways to make it a reality? See more

#standupforpositiveaging STRUCTURE & CAPACITY - WHERE'S THE COMMITMENT? The Saskatchewan Government took a step forward when a Minister Responsible for Seniors was appointed. The Minister also has another portfolio, "Minister Responsible for Rural and Remote Health". Both of these portfolios are lodged within the gargantuan Ministry of Health, so older adult advocacy may not have much clout around the Cabinet table. Commitment to aging older adults can be shown by establishing an independent Seniors Advocate, just as Saskatchewan has a Children's Advocate.
