As a non-profit, Saskatoon Cycles relies on the generous efforts of its volunteers. One of the ways you can contribute to and help shape the direction of our work is by becoming a member of our Board of Directors. At our AGM on November 10th, three people joined our Board. Over the next few weeks, we’ll introduce them to you through a series of Q and A posts through which they’ll share the reasons they wanted to join our board and how they hope to contribute. https://saskatooncycles.org/getting-to-know-the-saskatoon-/
Join us Tuesday night from 7-8 PM on Zoom. We've teamed up with Bridge City Bicycle Co-op to host a workshop on winter cycling. Interested? Send an email note to [email protected]
One of the key arguments employed against the installation of Low Traffic Neighborhoods (LTNs)where roads are closed to motorists but left open to cyclists ...and pedestriansis that they force motorists to use main roads, thereby increasing congestion and worsening air pollution. However, traffic counts in London have shown this is not the case. Open those streets for all users, Canada!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Saskatoon Cycles 2020 AGM last night. And welcome to our new board members: Kira Judge, Amber McTaggart, and Johanna Bergerman! We know you'll be great additions to the team and look forward to tapping into your energy and ideas for making #yxe a more cycle-friendly city.
Meewasin Valley Authority is also looking for public input on planned enhancements to the River Heights Trail. The area, adjacent to the River Heights neighbourhood, starts at Capilano Drive at the west end and continues east to Spadina Crescent, through Meewasin Park. The project includes the development of 1.4 kilometers of new primary trail through the site (where no trail currently exists), including upgrades to existing trail sections, and enhancements to adjacent areas.... Deadline for feedback is December 15th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1J2OtmeLLE
Our AGM happens tomorrow night. There's still time to register...but hurry! https://saskatooncycles.org/hurry-theres-still-time-to-reg/
Saskatoon Cycles submitted a question on cycling infrastructure that was part of the survey of candidates running for mayor and city council. Follow the link to read candidates' responses... Active Transportation: The City’s Active Transportation Plan (ATP) released in 2016 set out the following vision: In 2045, Saskatoon is a leading city for active transportation, where walking and cycling are convenient, comfortable, attractive, fun and normal ways of moving around the cit...y year round for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. The ATP target is to double walking and cycling trips to 24% of all daily trips and 15% of all commute trips by 2045. Ensuring cyclists and pedestrians feel safe will be one of the keys to achieving these goals. Do you support the City of Saskatoon investing in the necessary physical infrastructure to safely separate cycling traffic from both vehicular traffic and pedestrians? https://www.liveableyxe.ca/report-card/
