Did you know, 17 years ago this month was the first Bernadette Price Memorial Tournament? This tournament has brought athletes from all over the country to compete in high performance ringette. This year looks different for obvious reasons, but SRA wanted to give our Saskatoon teams in U12 and up an opportunity to compete in the Bernadette Price. So with mini leagues in place and protocols practiced, Bernadette Price Memorial ringette is a go this weekend, which we know Be...rn would have wanted. So who is Bernadette Price? Her passion for the game and her love for the girls took her far beyond the involvement of a normal volunteer. Bernadette became a second mother to many players, a confidant to coaches, and a guiding light to the Saskatoon Board of directors. She joined the ringette family in the 1980’s and never looked back. She managed teams that travelled all over Canada, with one year travelling to Helsinki, Finland to compete. She was involved in the ‘94 Nationals, the board of directors, was Bingo coordinator and office coordinator for SRA until her passing. On a Friday night in September 2002, hanging out with some of her best ringette Mom’s, she passed suddenly from an aortic aneurysm. Bernadette, or Bernaby to me, was my second mom on and off the bench. She took care of all her girls from water bottle fills to keeping our seasons organized. Bernaby managed my team for years and spent countless hours transporting us in that ol’ Red Ford Aerostar to the rink and back. Her love and dedication for Ringette was strong and it showed through her unique laugh and big, bright eyes!! Bern was a massive impact on my ringette days and I will always have her memories with me.
