More "training from a distance" last night as our new members reviewed their small group search training from last Saturday and critiqued their notes. They also covered urban search challenges and operational strategies. We finished off the evening with a whole team update on COVID and operational procedures for training and searches. #yxe #SAR #safety #training
Thanks once again to the great people at Woody's RV World for keeping us on the road with annual maintenance of our command post and logistics trailers. So appreciated!! Dave Rempel, Parts and Service Manager, and Dustin Mok, Service Advisor. (Masks off only for photo! ) Thanks to SSAR members Sean Taylor and Brain Galka for organizing their day to get the trailers there and back. ... #yxe #SAR #community
Missing person, Aaron Wuttunee, may have travelled to Alberta and BC. Any information, please contact Saskatoon Police Service.
Great search scenario last night for our experienced members! We searched for, and located, three "missing subjects". All had various levels of cold-related injuries. Two were able to walk out; the third required a hypothermia wrap and carrying out without the luxury of the mule wheel and litter. Good job, team! #yxe #babyitscoldoutside #BICO #hypothermia
Celebrating #InternationalVolunteerDay! Thank you so much to our dedicated members and SAR members around the world who are professionally trained and, at a moment's notice, drop what they are doing to help locate lost or missing people and assist their communities in other response capacities when needed. Not to mention the many, many hours of work done behind the scenes to keep our organizations strong. You are all amazing!! #yxe #SAR #Volunteers #JazzHands
As promised, a follow up to our #RemembranceDay post -- photos from the GPS locations of war-related memorials in #yxe
Our new members in training are patient, keen, resilient and readily accepting of last minute changes and challenges. In other words, they're going to be great SAR members! Recently they've done some individual outdoor assignments, practicing their knots and shelter building and submitting photos and videos of their work; zoom training last night included search theory and they absolutely crushed their lost person behaviour assignments. Well done! Our trainers are also bein...g challenged to come up with unique and interesting ways to teach the course content from a distance. With COVID numbers in Saskatoon on the rise, we are trying very hard to keep everyone safe but still do the work and training that needs to be done. #yxe #SAR #Training #SARisHard #safetyfirst
Today, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we will pause what we are doing to honor and remember the men and women who served and continue to serve Canada and who have sacrificed so much for our country. While the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony is not being held this year, we are recognizing the day in a truly search and rescue manner with a GPS course marking several war-related memorials in the city. Many thanks to SSAR member Colin for doing this and prov...iding the hints. We’ll post photos of the locations tomorrow. #yxe #RemembranceDay2020
Thank you, Global Saskatoon! There were so many people and organizations helping others and our community through the storm and we're honoured to be featured. #yxe #SKstorm #SAR #community (Starts at 4:20 mark)
A review of our radio log from last night showed that our members dealt with over 100 vehicles. (And those were just the ones the teams radioed in! There were often multiple vehicles at any given location.) - Abandoned vehicles were checked and flagged unless they were blocking driving lanes or a hazard in some way, in which case a tow truck was called; - Members shoveled snow and pushed vehicles to help many motorists get unstuck; - They ensured tow trucks were called for... people who were still with stuck vehicles; - They transported 9 people to 7 locations (with COVID protocols/procedures in place); - They checked several locations for a missing person who was later located safe; and - Various other tasks as required. Our members spent a total of 304.5 hours on standby and then activation as the storm got worse. We are a 100% volunteer, charitable organization. #yxe #community #SKstorm #SoOthersMayLive #volunteers #SAR #emergencyresponse
