The winner of the Joyce Manton Award for Leadership and Professional Involvement goes to DR. SUSAN TUPPER! Susan fulfills many roles in the province, including positions in the Saskatchewan Health Authority in Pain Quality Improvement and Research, and Clinical Standards and Professional Practice; lecturer at the School of Rehabilitation Science; advisor and mentor for graduate students; and Chair of the Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Pain Society. Susan is a propone...nt of evidence-based pain care, and has been involved in a number of ways. Most notably, as reported by her nominators JoAnn Nilson and Janice Block, Susan has been highly involved in the development of the recently validated and published "Pain Treatment Planning Questionnaire", for use with people who have bleeding disorders. Susan has led and developed pain education seminars for health care practitioners in the SHA. In addition to educating HCPs, Susan developed "Understanding and Managing your Pain", an education session for adult outpatients who have chronic pain and need assistance with independent general pain management strategies. Susan has also been instrumental in an initiative to further educate HCPs working in long-term care facilities with patients that have cognitive impairments and chronic pain. Susan is completing a Provincial Pain Assessment and Treatment Provincial Clinical Standard for the SHA with the assistance of a provincial multidisciplinary working group and is a wonderful ambassador for physical therapists in this arena. As Chair of the Saskatchewan Pain Society, Susan has been indispensable in the development of the SaskPain newsletter and website. Susan is very clearly a leader in the profession in our province by demonstrating a commitment to pain education for the benefit of Saskatchewan citizens. She is an exemplary professional whom other physical therapists respect and admire. Congratulations Susan on all of your successes, and on winning this Award! See more
