In an industry where we often work alone in our private practices, I have found that getting supervision regularly offers sense of connection and support. Bringing client issues, or personal/professional struggles to my supervisor has provided me with the sense that someone has my back and I am not needing to figure it all out alone. As a result, I have grown in skill as a therapist, both professionally and personally. Because of my own love of supervision, I have been a... supervisor since 2014, offering process oriented competency based supervision. This style of supervision works with the counsellors own awareness of themselves and their clients to guide how supervision flows. The skills and insights and growth inherent in the supervision thus come directly from the needs of the supervisee(s). In group sessions, all group members contribute to the discussion bringing their own insights into the mix so that everyone is learning from everyone. I am offering group supervision sessions this fall. My groups are 5 sessions of 2 hours each. The first hour of each session is geared to discussing a competency module and the 2nd hour is case / client scenario review and feedback. In the first session of each group, we discuss the goals of the individual members of the group and together decide on the modules to be covered for the rest of the set of sessions.
