Calls to domestic violence and abuse hotlines have increased dramatically since the #COVID19 crisis began. As physical distancing measures have prevented vulnerable individuals from accessing critical resources, organizations supporting children, youth and women need our help to operate in a safe way during this stressful time. Our team of students at the Social Innovation Academy have been working with the Vancouver Social Value Fund and Charitable Impact on the #ChooseYou...rImpact campaign to understand how to best support our local community. Through these efforts, they created the Violence and Abuse Reduction Giving Group that will be directing donations to the BWSS Battered Women's Support Services, Downtown Eastside Women's Centre, and Atira Women's Resource Society. Food insecurity has long been a concern amongst vulnerable groups. The #COVID19 crisis has exacerbated the challenge of providing food to those most in need, meaning vulnerable populations are significantly more at risk of facing food insecurity than before. Our team of students at the Social Innovation Academy and the Vancouver Social Value Fund have been exploring this issue by holding conversations with those working in the frontlines to understand how we can support them... best. Through this work, they created the Food Security Giving Group in the #ChooseYourImpact campaign to direct donations to organizations such as the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, A Better Life Foundation, and Potluck Cafe Society. Last chance to apply: The Social Innovation Academy (SIA) is hiring students from across Canada to join our experiential learning Fellowship Program for the academic year. SIA Fellows will participate in a rigorous training curriculum, have access to industry-specific workshops, and work hands-on with social entrepreneurs and investors on month-long projects. Top performing Fellows will be offered a summer internship through the SIA Analyst Program, with confirmed locations in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montréal, from May - August 2020.
