Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club 24.11.2020

Greetings all! I wanted to take an opportunity to say hello, and share some news. Although I don't have a program announcement I wanted to keep you updated on what's been happening behind the scenes. Michael has returned to the pool from redeployment and is actively working on how we can safely return both to the pool and waterfront. Over the past week Michael and I have been developing different models and options for how we could run a summer program. There are still some l...ogistics, unknown factors and considerations we're working through but at this point we know that the earliest day we could launch a modified program is July 13. If and when we are able to run the program we will be following a phased in approach similar to the Swim Ontario return to swimming model that starts with the athletes that hold Bronze Medallion and higher awards (and least likely to need physical manipulation or assistance). The program will look different this year. Training will be once a day; and we're anticipating smaller groups, physical distancing and sanitization requirements and keeping the same cohorts together for the duration of the program. We'll be relying on our athletes to take responsibility for following any new rules to ensure safe operation of the program. If there are no outbreaks in the community or issues related to safety, logistics or physical distancing, the next phase would introduce additional age groups and likely commence 2 weeks after the first phase. It would include athletes that have been in the program previously, with the ability to swim 100m or more non-stop or individuals that have completed swimmer 5 or higher. We're unsure if we'll be able to phase in our youngest group of athletes but will keep you informed as we move ahead. Our top priority is the safety of staff, participants and the public. If we are unable to ensure everyone’s safety or there are too many logistical challenges to provide the quality programming you've come to know and love, unfortunately the program will not be able to move forward. We'll keep you posted as we have more information to share. If you don't think your athlete will be participating in the program at all and would like a refund cheque, please email [email protected]. We've included those who were also on the waitlist as we're taking that into consideration as we create our plan forward. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this together. Greetings, It is with great disappointment we announce that the Town of Saugeen Shores has made the difficult decision to cancel all Town-run programming as currently scheduled up to September 6, 2020. This includes ball hockey, summer swimming lessons, fundamentals, water and land-based day camps and advanced training courses. These cancellations are a result of the ongoing implications and restrictions related to COVID-19 that significantly impact our ability to deliver p...rograms as they were intended. Staff are considering options for modified programs. Watch our social media channels @SaugeenShoresON, website and e-newsletter for information. Refunds: Refunds for the waterfront fundamental programs will be applied as an account credit If you would like a refund by cheque, please contact us per the information below Staff are considering how a waterfront program could operate safely for participants, staff and the public this summer. We continue to monitor government restrictions and as they ease will consider what would be possible for programming. We are hopeful to deliver something this summer and will keep you informed as we move forward. For these reasons we applied the refund credit to your account instead of issuing a cheque. Those already registered in the fundamental programs will have the first chance to register. We know you're eager to get out onto the water. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through these unprecedented times together. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected] or 519-832-2008 ext. 131. Take care and keep well, Your Community Services Team

Today we say farewell to Taylor; a long-time employee, an original member of the SSLC and a leader within our aquatic community. She's taught 100s of kids to swim over the years and during the last 2 years has led all of our Assistant and Instructor Schools teaching and developing our young lifeguards. Taylor is one to always go above and beyond, and it shows through the popularity of the programs she's involved in, and the fondness participants have for her. We're going to miss her smiling face but are very excited to see where her new adventure leads her. Thank you Taylor!

Nothing says summer quite like the opening of your backyard pool and the anticipation of pool days and BBQs. Safety and fun go hand-in-hand around water, so kee...p safety top of mind with these tips: Assign an adult to actively supervise any kids in the pool at all times Keep kids under 5 within arms reach both in and around the water Control and restrict access to the pool Complete the backyard pool safety checklist annually Download the Lifesaving Society Ontario checklist and review other water safety resources at https://bit.ly/2ZGuaPp
