Ice cream sundaes will always have a place in our diner hearts and this Say Hello Sweets release is really something special. Made in partnership with The Diamond and A Better Life Foundation, these Strawberry Banana Sundae jars are packed with strawberry banana ice cream, sea salted caramel, fudge, strawberries, toasted marshmallow pieces and pastel candy bits. Every time you indulge, partial proceeds support food security in Vancouver’s DTES. Our team in the production kitchen sent 1,000 turkey dinners complete with stuffing, mashed potato, veg, cranberry sauce & gravy fixins’ into the DTES yesterday. We’re honouring our neighbours and serving them dishes made with love, care and humility. In that spirit, we’re grateful to for our charity partners A Better Life Foundation for giving us the opportunity to make a real, meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most. We might not be serving up the city’s best burger in our diner these days, but we’re family owned, operated and making meals from the heart. #beinghungrysucks

We sent almost 1,000 dishes of this new fall stew & spiced dumplings banger to our neighbours in need today. While the diner is now closed, @saveonmeats cooks work tirelessly to support our partnered charity @abetterlifevan in working towards ending the cycle of poverty through food right here in our own neighbourhood. From now until the end of September (soon!), our non-profit partners @abetterlifevan are raising a minimum of $20,000 to sustain and double the impact of their new Food Waste Recovery programming. The more perfectly delicious, nutritious food ranging from fine cheeses to fruit juice, whole chickens, entrée salads and more will be fed to folks in our neighbourhood who need them most. We are humbled and proud of our pals Lauren & Kirsten Southcott of Southcott Strategy for taking the amazing initiative on a day typically driven by big sales shopping of bringing their friends down to us at the Diner, purchasing and handing out tokens around the DTES. Its most recent menu puts the burger front and centre with 7 burger offerings designed by Executive Chef, Kris Barnholden and Chef de Cuisine, Vanecea Waterworth and ranges from the classic Save On Meats burger made with Two Rivers - organic, grass fed and carbon neutral, BC beef to the Fancy Boy dressed with mushroom, Asi...ago cheese, caramelized onions, truffle mayo and topped with braised shortrib and a fried egg on a potato rosemary bun. To celebrate the launch of this renewed focus on burgers, Save On Meats is throwing a burger party - or better a Burger War - and have invited (challenged) industry heavyweights to compete for best burger and the bragging rights to follow. In 1957 this gentleman started a little butcher shop that became a staple in the DTES. In 2011 he handed the keys to us so we could put our spin on his legacy. Here he is in the new butcher shop @braiseandbutcher with his likeness painted on our walls. Much respect Mr DesLauriers.
