"Black Lives Matter" is being proclaimed from the streets of Venice! Right in front of the former First Baptist Church of Venice, the center of so much of Venic...e's Black History, including last year's BLM rallies, is a new "Black Lives Matter" street mural. While today's installation coincided with Black History Month, the mural is a statement about the future -- a determined declaration of the work that needs to be done to dismantle racism in all aspects of our society. My deep thanks to Save Venice for suggesting and pushing for the mural, and to our Department of Cultural Affairs, LADOT Official, City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services, and Creative Paving Solutions for making the project a reality.

A Quick Read - Racelighting Frank Harris III and J Luke Wood just published this piece in Diverse: Issues In Higher Education. It talks about Racelighting - a f...orm of gaslighting facing people of color at both the societal and individual level. "Racelighting refers to the process whereby People of Color question their own thoughts and actions due to systematically delivered racialized messages that make them second guess their own lived experiences with racism." https://diverseeducation.com/article/205210/

O...ur hope is to bring history to life through this story of the Black Panther Party Meeting ID: 867 4356 0410 Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86743560410 Synopsis: In 1968, a young, charismatic activist named Fred Hampton became Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, who were fighting for freedom, the power to determine the destiny of the Black community, and an end to police brutality and the slaughter of Black people. Chairman Fred was inspiring a generation to rise up and not back down to oppression, which put him directly in the line of fire of the government, the FBI and the Chicago Police. But to destroy the revolution, they had to do it from both the outsideand the inside. Facing prison, William O’Neal is offered a deal by the FBI: if he will infiltrate the Black Panthers and provide intel on Hampton, he will walk free. O’Neal takes the deal.
