The Savoy Theatre 09.12.2020

**IMPORTANT REMINDER - PLEASE READ** We at the Savoy are very excited to present to you the first of our Christmas livestreams this season, on Saturday, December 12th. The Barra MacNeils will be playing their classic Christmas show for you all to enjoy from the comfort of your own home. Next week, we will see the Cape Breton Christmas hour do the same on Saturday, December 19th. Before the livestream airs, we just wanted to remind everyone to make sure they know how to access... the livestream and to plan out your strategy to view the production on your own TV. Try to log in now so that you can mitigate any potential issues accessing the site. To view the livestream, you will simply need to: 1. Visit ppv.savoytheatre.com 2. Click on "My Account" in the upper right corner 3. Login to your account. You can skip this step if the computer remembered your password when you purchased the ticket. 4. The page will open up to "My Pay Per Views" and you will see the picture of the livestream ticket(s) you've purchased. 5. When the show goes live, you will be able to click on the picture and watch the show! You can watch the show for up to 48 hours after it airs. That's it! Simple as that. If you are a visual learner, skip to near the end of the video below to see what the site looks like, and how to access the livestream. If you are planning to watch the show on your TV, give yourself some time to figure out how to watch the livestream on your TV. Some people will be Chromecasting it, some will mirror their screen from their device, some will hook up their computer directly to their TV via a HDMI cable. Use whichever method you normally do to stream a show on your TV. If you are not sure which method your TV is able to do, call up a tech savvy relative or friend to give you a hand! It is always best to be prepared well ahead of time so that you know exactly what to do when the time comes. Happy Streaming!

The Savoy Theatre 12.11.2020

Hello everyone, Please read this entire post so we can share some important information. We almost got there. We were so excited to finally re-open, but it seems that’s not yet in the cards.... With recent restrictions being imposed in Halifax and with case numbers growing daily, the Savoy Theatre management along with the Savoy’s Board of Directors, have made the very hard decision to cancel the in-house viewings of our previously planned Christmas show series: Christmas with the Barra MacNeils (Dec 11, 12, 13) and The Cape Breton Christmas Hour: A Two Hour show (Dec 18, 19, 20). We are so sorry. This was not an easy decision, but the safety and well-being of our volunteers, our staff, our performers and our show-goers takes priority over all else. Large gatherings may have to cease for a while until we can quell the rise of this unfortunate pandemic. We feel it is the best way forward for our loved ones and our situation. *** The good news *** is you can still enjoy the show - along with all your family and friends because we’re still going to do the LIVE STREAM versions of both shows. That meansno matter where you live, you can still have a Savoy online experience. Hang out in the online chat with displaced Capers, family and friends or isolated seniors. Watch from the safety of your own home. IF YOU PURCHASED A TICKET TO SEE THESE SHOWS IN PERSON, Savoy box office staff will be calling you to REFUND your full ticket price ($59.50) AND can walk you through how to get your online ticket ($25), step by step. It’s easy to do. In fact, you can watch for a step-by-step information video we’ll be posting soon. Here is the online link to purchase: https://ppv.savoytheatre.com/ So book a seat on your own couch, wear your most comfortable clothes, make popcorn and STILL attend a show at the historic Savoy Theatre. Again...we are very sorry for any inconvenience regarding the cancellation of the live shows, but we feel better in our hearts knowing we did the right thing to keep all safe. We hope everyone will abide by any new regulations imposed along the way if it can mean getting rid of this pandemic so we can go back to enjoying each other in public spaces. But for now, we’ll attempt to stay connected to you all via the online world. Take care of each other. Sincerely, Pam

Good afternoon! We really miss everyone. But we're patiently waiting for things to run their course. In the meantime, we're busy redesigning and reconfiguring to make things work, while trying to make good decisions for everyone's safety and well-being. Let's just say, we've got a lot of plates spinning in the air right now. We've got an UPDATE to share for those who have been asking about our Dinner Theatre. In light of recent announcements and due to the current COVID-1...9 rules surrounding the act of singing, and then add in food service along with bar service we decided it was not a great mix. That being said, we regret to announce we won't be offering our regular Savoy Christmas Dinner Theatre this year. We don't make this decision lightly -- and it represents a huge loss to our theatre; a loss financially, and as a source of employment for local performers, box office staff, bar staff and tech crew. And we had even attempted to move the event to a larger space (The Miners Forum Community Room) to accommodate the many challenges that come with running a dinner theatre, but we quickly realized the cons outweigh the pros in trying to create a safe environment that makes sense for everyone. We hope you all understand. The good news is: we are planning some future stage presentations (we had to get creative, but good things are coming!) and we're looking forward to making an announcement regarding those projects in the coming weeks, but for now at least, we'll be pausing the dinner theatre plans. Thanks for keeping in touch with us. We know many of you miss the excitement of attending a live performance in our almost 100 year-old venue as much as we miss having you here. We hope to be able to host you all here again soon. Until then, stay safe, be kind and take care of each other.
