Sawatzky and Duerksen Renovations 31.08.2020

Here are some before and after photos of an extensive renovation I tackled during the Covid 19 epidemic; fortunately this couple had purchased the home but still lived in their condo while all the renos were happening. We removed 2 walls and put in an LVL beam to support the roof load, then capped it with a Faux beam which was custom made and shipped in 3 pieces, then wrapped around the real one to give an authentically rustic look. Cabinets were designed and installed by Kit...chen Craft, flooring and backsplash Tiles were supplied by the clients and installed by Dean Carriere (one of the best there is); electrical, plumbing, venting and ducting all had to be moved to accommodate the new layout, some barnwood was added to the end walls as accents (which from all places came from Costco... who knew) but these people absolutely love their newly renovated home. More pictures to follow as this is only 1 part of a 3 part renovation; what an absolutely fantastic couple to work with and for, hopefully they enjoy there newly revamped spaces for years to come. Today I did a mini bathroom reno with Meadow (my daughter) as my assistant; client had already painted the walls and so we replaced the vanity, new countertop and taps, new toilet, new light fixture, new vinyl plank flooring and some new Baseboards. Sometimes it doesnt take much to completely transform a bathroom when on a budget.

Sometimes I tackle outdoor projects as well; here is a deck that was somewhat plain, little shelter from wind an even less privacy. We removed the railing, added privacy walls and added a sheltered semi outdoor kitchen (well, bbq nook). Outdoor cabinet with butcher block and a barfridge, an exhaust fan too to extract the smoke when needed. It was an idea inspired by a visit to Paraguay, where it is very common to have a designated bbq area/corner called (I believe) a "Quincho". (And for the keen eye, railings for the stairs will be modified and installed yet; gotta keep it to code)

Here are some before and after photos of a project I wrapped up a couple of weeks ago; Covid-19 and all its precautionary measures that had to be taken into account forced me to reschedule and rethink how and when jobs get done. Everything came to a halt for a couple of weeks back in early March but now all is back on track and I will be posting more pictures as we continue to wrap up other jobs. And yes, some days were a hassle but honestly all clients, trades, suppliers etc. have been stellar sofar and if we as a community continue working together many things will be accomplished. Cheers everyone, have a great week and stay safe.

This was a nice "Filler" project; it was for a repeat client of mine who also owns a few rental properties. They were fortunate to have really good and stable tenants for numerous years (5+) and decided when they moved out to spruce up the unit. The bathroom was a complete renovation, all lighting upgraded to LED, new paint throughout including doors and casings, new baseboards too. But being a landlord one must pick and choose what gets repaired and what waits until the next cyle; eitherway I wish them the best of luck finding another tenant that will want to call this home for a long time.

1st project of the year which I wrapped up almost 2 weeks ago; what a transformation. Cabinets were supplied and installed by Exclusive Cabinets, vinyl plank flooring came from Image Flooring and the backsplash tiles are from Ames. The m/w hoodfan combo has a really neat feature where suction vents can be extended should one be doing some heavy duty cooking. The client is absolutely thrilled with the changes and her new working space; the shotty railing and spindles we remo...ved and built a pony wall thus allowing her to add some cabinets for additional storage. We also updated trim and woodwork, put in a new cap by the basement stairs and redid the wall opening between the the dining and living rooms. And yes, the living room wall is not painted... she had us remove the old stacked mirrors and shiplap wanting to create a feature wall but couldnt decide on a color; so once a decision has been made it will be painted. Give us a call once you are ready for a change, makeover or upgrade; we would love to help you with your project. See more

Here are some before and after pics of a project I did last fall; the client felt adventurous and did their own demolition. Once the old cabinets were out we also removed a wall separating the kitchen and dining room and tied new hardwood flooring into the existing one which turned out really great. Cabinet design, layout, supply and install all done by Kitchen Craft, with whom I have worked in partnership for 15+ years and they never disappoint. Give me a call, I would love to help transform your ideas or dreams into reality.

Before and after photos of a project we wrapped up just in time for the holidays. The corner pantry was closed off, opened in the hallway and became a linen closet; the walk through was closed off as well to create more flow. Potlights were added as well as under cabinet lighting, vinyl plank flooring for durability. The cabinets were supplied and installed by Exclusive Cabinets who also did the design and layout as well. It truly is a great transformation and the clients are very pleased.

Here are some before and after pictures of a project I completed about 2 weeks ago. A wall separating the kitchen and living room was removed which really opened open this space allowing for a peninsula in its place. Also a bulkhead with potlights was added where the wall once stood to still create a sense of separation between the rooms. Thank you to Kitchen Craft and its sales staff for your continued support and placing your trust in me with your projects and designs.

Some before and after photos from our 1st project of 2019 and I must say what a transformation. The clients are so thrilled with the newly created space and couldnt be happier. Cabinetry was designed, supplied and installed by Kitchen Craft. Thank you to all other trades and crew for making an idea and vision a reality.

Sometimes the old adage less is more applies. This family wanted a media room that was functional and cozy; nothing over the top, just a space where family can gather to enjoy movies yet reflect what the purpose of said space is. Their goal was to make it personal, it was not about entertaining the entire neighbourhood or circle of friends but have enough room for kids to have a fun place to hang out with theirs. Instead of a traditional door a larger opening was created and a custom barn door and rail system ordered; the barn door came raw so that a stain of choosing could be applied which really brought out the grains of the wood. Luxury vinyl plank flooring (5mm) was installed throughout the entire lower level including the stairs. More pictures to follow from the rest of this basement once all items are in their place.

Here are a few pictures of a project we wrapped up in time for the holidays. Unfortunately we do not have any before pics as the clients did their own demo; but, where the kitchen now is was a sunken family room with a corner fireplace. A wall separating the kitchen and living room was also removed which really opened up the house. The clients will be able to enjoy their new space for years to come and are beyond thrilled with the transformation. (cabinets were designed, supplied and installed by Exclusive Cabinets)

Here are some before and after pics of a project we tackled during the summer which we wrapped up a few weeks ago. It started as a kitchen reno and ballooned into an entire main floor and sunroom. The window was enlarged so that the granite c-top could flow into it. The design and cabinetry was supplied by Exclusive Cabinets, vinyl plank flooring provided and installed by The Floor Show, flooring and backsplash tiles by Carrara Tiles, paints and colors are all Benjamin Moore,... plumbing fixtures by Emco, appliances are from Wiens Furniture in Niverville, new pocket and closet doors and hardware are from Woodland Supply. The clients are over the moon elated with the transformation; a big thank you to various trades for the workmanship, and thank you to the customer for trusting us with this massive project. It has been busy but over the next few days I will post photos of other jobs we have done or are in the process of completing this year. See more

We completed this kitchen several weeks ago; the kitchen was designed, supplied and installed by Kitchen Craft. The clients are pleased with the end result and looking forward to making memories with family and friends... and we all know that good parties start and end in the kitchen.

Some before and after photos of a project we wrapped up today in Lockport. A major transformation and the client is ecstatic. We removed carpeting in the living/dining room and installed hardwood floors that the customer had sitting in their basement for... 30 years. The cabinets were designed, supplied and installed by Kitchen Craft, Backsplash Tiles are from Julian, Lighting from B.A. Robinson. Flooring in the kitchen is a Vinyl Tile that came from and was installed by Rona. Getting hugs as we packed up getting ready to leave was a Bonus; l love turning peoples dreams into reality. A couple of finishing touches will be completed by KC tomorrow and these folks will have a stylish and more functional space that they are sure to enjoy for years to come.

Here are some before and after photos of a project we wrapped up a few weeks ago; this was a job we took on for the winter. We added a shower stall in the LL bath, took out a wall and opened up the kitchen into the dining room, refinished some beautiful hardwood floors that were carpeted, re-vamped the entire main floor bath, all new baseboards and trim, re-paint of all walls, replaced a glass brick window with a proper new one, updated electrical and lighting to LED, and much much more. Cabinets were supplied and installed by Kitchen Craft; the transformation speaks for itself. Another happy and satisfied customer.

Here are some before and after pictures of a recent basement Rec room. As you can see it was not a very inviting space before but with some new walls, proper lighting and better ventilation it will be a room they can enjoy for years to come. All thats left to do is finish up the Railing coming down the stairs because as those with a keen eye will notice it right now is not up to code... yet. More pictures to follow.

Another project we managed to wrap up just in time for Christmas; the black stainless steel appliances and tiles that were chosen by the client look absolutely stunning together. The cabinetry was supplied and installed by Kitchen Craft. Now family and friends can be entertained during the holidays.

We completed this project about a month ago. The owners had originally hired a contractor to work on improvements in their basement; long story short a dispute erupted between them, the company was asked to leave and the homeowners lived with their walls cut up... for 5 years. We had to reframe the bottom of all walls, replace the door jams, rebuilt the wall and door into the laundry room, also insulate and apply vapour barrier to half of the exterior walls. It was somewhat tedious but once all patches and repairs were made we installed all new baseboards and trims and it ended up looking great. The customers are thrilled to after all this time have their living space back and couldnt be happier.

Another project on the verge of being wrapped up, just a few minor details and backsplash missing. We ordered railings, window trims and baseboards to match the cabinets. Custom insert for the railing came from the US, cabinets done by Hutterites. We also created an opening between the kitchen and dining area for serving purposes and to create a flow the client wanted. Give us a call, we would love to turn your vision into reality.

Some progress pics of a 2nd condo kitchen we are currently working on; again, added LED under cabinet lighting which can be set to both soft and bright, a tile backsplash is yet to be put in after which a beautiful hood fan is to be installed between frosted glass cabinets. We removed the pony wall separating the kitchen and living room allowing space for a large island with plugs at both ends. The old cabinets were a thermofoil with a large dead space between them and the ce...iling whereas the new ones are a painted wood product called seashell, also taller and a simple yet elegant crown moulding. Obviously not quite done yet but the client has working appliances and running water just in time for Thanksgiving; scheduling and timing are important to keep everything moving along. We hope that you all have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving weekend, enjoyed with family and friends. See more

Current kitchen Reno we are working on. Old honey oak cabinets are out, new sleek toffee maple cabinets are in. We switched the appliance locations, added some under cabinet lighting and some top and bottom mouldings. C-tops were templated today and a new backsplash will be added once they are in. More pics to come.

Sometimes we come across a head scratcher; but, if one is on a budget U-Tile is a great option. The look of tile without the grout; easy install, even easier to keep clean. (If you look carefully you will also notice that on the old tub the drain is at the opposite end from the shower head; it was installed like this back in the 70s and was just lived with until now)

Sawatzky and Duerksen Renovations 24.10.2019

A kitchen and bathroom renovation we are currently working on and nearing completion; a wall separating the kitchen and dining room was removed to open up the space and replaced with a peninsula complete with a collapsible countertop extension at the end. We added pot lights in the sloped ceiling, under cabinet LED lighting, we added a bulkhead to separate the popcorn ceiling from the scraped ceiling in the dining room and ducted the hood fan to the outside.
