Sumit was promoted to a managing associate role and assisted with the opening and running of one of the offices. One of the common misconceptions amongst new family law clients is the idea of what a common-law marriage or a common-law spouse is. Under the Family Law Act, two people are spouses if they marry each other or live with each other in a marriage-like relationship for two years or more (or, for the purposes of spousal support, if they have a child together even if they have lived together for less than two years.)
