SASKATCHEWAN COALITION AGAINST RACISM MEDIA RELEASE LONECHILD TO FILE STATEMENT OF CLAIM... Lawyer Dan LeBlanc will be filing a Statement of Claim in Queen’s Bench Court in Regina this week on behalf of Rocky Lonechild, who suffered life-threatening injuries during an arrest by Regina Police Service (RPS) officers on December 13, 2019. The claim will name the RPS officer who inflicted the injuries and the Regina Board of Police Commissioners, along with the three attending EMS personnel and their employer the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Lonechild was lying prone face-down with his hands cuffed behind his back for several seconds before another officer inexplicably performed violent full weight knee drops on Lonechild’s back, breaking his ribs and puncturing a lung. Then, despite Mr. Lonechild advising them of his injuries and breathing difficulties, the officers and attending EMS personnel failed to provide proper medical care for him. Rocky Lonechild’s lawyer, family representatives and supporters will be available to the media outside of the courthouse at 2 PM on Friday October 9, 2020. Please come and show support for Rocky outside the court house. It will likely be adjourned tomorrow, but its important to keep showing support and speaking out against police brutality and RPS violence.
