Here’s another episode of Curtains Up for you to enjoy. Unfortunately, with the lockdown put in place, our ‘studio’ has had to close for the time being. Luckily we have quite a few monologues that we recorded prior to the lockdown and are putting together. Once this lockdown is lifted we hope to bring you a few surprises. Enjoy this episode In Men’s Words.

Hello Members and Friends of Scarborough Theatre Guild, You are invited to attend the 2020 Scarborough Theatre Guild Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions placed on gatherings, the AGM will be held online by ZOOM for all of our safety and well-being. The AGM is an opportunity to make your STG membership count. Membership is so much more than paying a mandatory fee when cast in a show or being able to see Theatre... Scarborough shows at a discount. You, as a member, have a vested interest in the organization, and in its future. In a sense you are ‘part owner’, and only you can ensure that the group thrives. If you would like to join us on August 19 at 7:30 p.m. please indicate your interest by return e-mail to [email protected] by Friday, August 14. On that date, you will be sent the ZOOM link to join the AGM. The Zoom link will also have a phone-in option for those who prefer that method. All the appropriate documents usually available at an in-person AGM will be sent via this e-mail address in a pdf format approximately two weeks before the AGM. These documents will include the agenda, minutes from the 2019 AGM, the Year in Review for the 2019-2020 season and a financial report. If you would prefer to receive these documents by regular mail, please indicate this in your response to the e-mail address given above. We will also provide information with regard to critical motions that require a vote as well as information about those who wish to stand for Election to the Guild's Board of Directors. Election of the Board of Directors One of the vital activities at the Annual General Meeting is the election of next year’s Board of Directors. Members of STG's Board are responsible for governing and supervising the policies and affairs of the Guild, its committees and officers, and carrying out the goals of the organization. They also contribute to Theatre Scarborough policy and direction. The Board of Directors consists of a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 10 members. The elected Board Members then decide separately after the meeting who will fill which roles on the Board/Executive. Currently, 7 members of the 2019-20 Board are willing to stand for re-election. We need a minimum of one more person to stand for election. But the more the merrier. To nominate a member for the Board of Directors, or to indicate your interest in joining the Board, please contact Len Henderson at [email protected], or call him at 905 655-3605. We look forward to seeing you on ZOOM for this important meeting Wednesday, August 19 at 7:30 p.m. Please Sign Up Today. Len Henderson, President

I am saddened to say that Shirley Tollley, perhaps the last surviving founding member of the Guild, passed away on Thursday. I attach a Facebook link posted by her son which gives some more insight into her life. As he says, they have not determined what kind of memorial they are arranging, but I have asked to be kept in the loop in this regard, and will froward any information once I get it. https://www.facebook.com/655745936/posts/10158231827650937/ If any other members w...ho knew Shirley well have anything to share, please let me know. Thanks Len Henderson President

Below is the latest information from Theatre Scarborough. Because we are unable to predict when Toronto will reach the stage of reopening that will permit live theatre and because when it does we anticipate that it will come with physical distancing requirements that will limit the seating capacity, we will not be offering subscriptions for the 2020/21 season and we will not be putting single tickets on sale until we know what shows will be presented and what the seating con...Continue reading

A quick little update. The STG board is still meeting regularly via Zoom and looking at different scenarios. Once we can get into the theatre again, STG is hoping to open with Red Plaid Shirt. The cast and crew have worked hard on the show and could be up and running quickly. And figure a good comedy would be in order. What are your thoughts when our theatre is allowed to reopen? Would you be back in the seats? Or would you be feeling a little cautious and wait a little longer to see a show?
