New Research Alert! Newly published paper in Conservation Science and Practice indicates that 102 species at risk of extinction in the Fraser River Estuary can be saved with an investment of $381 million over 25 years. The research demonstrates that the best way to achieve this is for First Nations and other governments to collaboratively implement a conservation and sustainability plan for recovery. This scenario increases the probability of species recovery to 65% and significantly reduces the cost. https://conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/csp2.310
Congrats to Metro Vancouver Regional Parks for continuing to expand their parks system with their latest addition to the Codd Wetland in Pitt Meadows. Good news for everyone, including many species at risk!
In case you need a good reason not to rake and dispose of the leaves this year.
Something to keep an eye out for - but don't confuse them with our native Northern Alligator Lizard!

Today is Endangered Species Day! (or as we might say here in Canada - Species at Risk Day). It is important to learn about the many species that live here that are in danger of disappearing, and also about what we can all do to help. Visit the SCCP's website to learn all about the many species we have at risk on BC's South Coast - from the majestic Great Blue Heron to the small but important Oregon Forestsnail. Visit our tabs on all the resources available to you and learn about our Nature Stewards program. www.sccp.ca

Looking for something to do when taking a needed outdoor break? With the arrival of Spring, the treefrogs are loudly calling. The Fraser Valley Conservancy has recently launched their Frog Finders program - they want to know if you hear or see a frog (as well as a toad, salamander or newt). For more info, or to submit your observation: https://fraservalleyconservancy.ca/stewardship/frog-finders/
Yikes! Keep an eye out - we definitely don't want these buzzing around.

Just released: Toward a Vision for Salmon Habitat in the Lower Fraser River Since 2016, we have worked with First Nations, community groups, conservation organi...zations and dozens of individuals to identify the root causes of salmon habitat loss and to record ideas to address habitat restoration and protection. Our new report, Toward a Vision for Salmon Habitat in the Lower Fraser River sets bold recommendations to address the loss of salmon habitat that has been identified as a key factor in the crisis many recognize for Fraser River salmon.
