It's World Bee Day!! Bees have been on earth for about 30 million years! A bee lives less than 40 days, visits at least 1000 flowers & produces less than a teaspoon of honey. A lifetime of work so we can sweeten our tea or cereal. They pollinate many agricultural crops including fruits, fiber, nuts, and vegetables. Seventy percent of the world's agriculture depends exclusively on bees. In 2017 the bee was declared the most important living being on earth by the Earthwatch Institute. Today is a reminder of the importance of bees and what they do for our planet, and how vital it is to protect them. #worldbeeday #beeday #worldbeeday2022 #bees #savethebees

May 17 is an important day in history for civil rights. On this day in 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously (9-0) that racial segregation in public schools violated the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibit the states from denying equal protection of the laws to any person within their jurisdictions. Up until then schools were racially segregated, and schools catering to African American students were generally inferior. The case was called "Brown... v. Board of Education of Topeka" and began when the public school system in Topeka, Kansas refused to enroll black resident Oliver Brown's daughter at the elementary school closest to their home, forcing her to ride a bus to a segregated school farther away. The Browns and twelve other black families in similar situations filed a class action lawsuit, alleging that the segregation policy was unconstitutional. The Browns were represented by Thurgood Marshall, who would go on to become the U.S. Supreme Court's first African American justice. The Court's decision declared that separate education facilities for white and African American students were inherently unequal. One of the most impactful quotes from the trial, which still rings true today, was "A sense of inferiority affects the motivation of a child to learn." This landmark case was revolutionary as integrated schools paved the way for integrated transportation, restaurants, and other public facilities, changing American life completely over the coming years. Today we renew our commitment to making sure every child has access to a bright future! #OTD #BrowncBoardofEducation #education #onthisday #todayinhistory #everforward #civilrights #equalopportunity See more

Today is World Baking Day! Every third Sunday in May, amateur and professional bakers are encouraged to make their favourite baked goodies and then give them away as a token of gratitude and appreciation. It's a great day to teach your kids to bake, and the benefits are many, especially for young learners. Baking can help teach reading skills, math skills, how to follow directions, motor skills, patience, focus and attention, perseverance, and best of all, it can be a bonding... experience. So get those measuring spoons and mixing bowls out and whip up some cookies or cupcakes to share. It's a skill that they can carry with them for their entire lives. It's worth the mess! And hey, you can teach them the joys of cleaning up too. #worldbakingday #bakingday #bakingwithkids #baking #bakinglove #bakingtime #bakingfun #bakingisfun #bakingathome #bakinglife See more
