Happy Sunny Sunday to all! Just a quick update after receiving so many inquiries after our last post about our community garden plans...I will try to provide you with some additional info and hopefully answer all your asked and anticipated questions here for you tonight: 1. Yes, we will still be taking plant and (some) seed donations for this site up until the last planting weekend - 2nd weekend in May. Send us a text with what you have or stop by and we will find a spot fo...r you. 2. Yes, RFM - Real Food Market will have heritage, non gmo, heirloom seeds for sale again this year. There will be posts up on this site, RFM's site and on Medicine Hat Garage Sale, Buy and Sell and Kiiji very soon with all the details, price lists, etc. 3. Yes the garden site is under video survellance, for all 2 and 4 legged varmits....lol...Im sure we wont have any but ... just in case. 4. We will be out diggin in the dirt as soon as the thaw is complete. Some cold hardy seeds can be started but for now we are just starting our bedding out seeds/plants indoors this week! 5. We will be hosting a few seed give a ways for lucky folks passing by. Early am posts on this and RFM's sites will be announced the day of....so check in often Mid Apr - Mid May 6. Yes, we are planning an install of a self watering/rain water reclaimation drip and sprinkle system....still looking for a few large agricultural 1000 gal totes (let us know if you have any you want to donate to the cause)...already have the drip tape and the sprinklers...excited about this!! Welcome to March! Sunny days ahead keep us all hopeful that this crazy world will regain some semblance of normality and grace as we move into this new season of renewal, growth and vitamin D soaked days spent outside! Yay! This spring we are embarking on a partner project with our sister site/company Real Food Market and Seed in planting our first ever community garden site. We posted the work in progress last summer and fall as the raised beds were constructed, filled and... amended in preparation for new seeds and much anticipated growth and community participation this garden season. (you can check out some of those posts and pics on RFM's Instagram page "real food market and seed"). Come check it out on your next walk the Scholten Hill Trail adventure....we are right at the top of the hill beside the path. All seedlings and quick starts will be under cover for the first part of the season (sheltered from wind, deer, etc.) until they all get a healthy size. We hope this little project will encourage all to become excited about growing their own food, flowers and foliage....and it just spiffs up the area for all of us to enjoy. We are always somewhere near by if you have any questions regarding our progress or the plants featured in this area which have been donated by RFM. We would also like to send out a shout out and big thanks to the neighbours (B & J) for the mugo pine donations, our friend Sid for hauling and placing those many many truck loads of topsoil...you are our hero), family and friends who helped out with the construction and moral support, and all the many others who stopped by with encouragement and support during this construction phase. We hope to see all your faces again this year as we move forward with our planting plans. See more
