Happy Diwali! The much-awaited festival of light is here. Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is celebrated across India with great enthusiasm as it symbolizes the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, prosperity over poverty, and knowledge over ignorance. Derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Dipavali’, which means a row of lights, Diwali has been celebrated since time immemorial. This annual festival generally falls during October or November and is held during the Hin...du Lunisolar month Kartika. This year, Diwali is observed on Saturday, November 14. It is a national festival in India and in some places, can last five days Diwali is said to originate in India and is celebrated across the world in countries home to the Indian diaspora: the South Asian sub-continent, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Indonesia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana, among others. The name, Diwali first came from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that are lit and placed outside homes. These represent the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. To learn more, check out Diwali Fest or have a Google. Here is also a great parent/teacher resource on Diwali. This Diwali, I wish you with everything you ever wanted. Enjoy life and all the success it has to offer. Happy Diwali. https://www.tolerance.org//diwali-in-the-classroom-a-paren See more
