Sunshine Coast Connections 01.10.2020

Hello everyone. To best ensure the safety of our community the Connections center/space will remain closed. This is a temporary measure, we will open again as soon as possible.... In the meantime you can still access harm reduction supplies from Brent, our local harm reduction and needle exchange worker- (604)741-1082. You can teach Hawkfeather for distance support and phone/online substance use witnessing (236)982-3614 Please try to stay in if you can, and if you have a home or space where you can do so. Posted below is VCH's most recent recommendations for substance users and sellers to try and lower the spread of COVID-19. Our community is at greater risk,. Please be mindful and help each other by keeping distance, washing your hands with soap, often, do not share your equipment or drugs, try not to smoke found butts. If you sell, try to wear gloves when packaging, wash your hands often, do not store your drugs in your mouth, keep your drugs in a clean baggy if you can- and not your pocket. Mostly be safe!

While we do see a LOT of misinformation out there about COVID-19, our community is one that faces greater risk.. And not just from this pandemic. Our community will be easily bypassed when it comes to safety protocols as well We need to take care of each other

While many of us acknowledge that the media response to the coronavirus/COVID-19 has caused a massive panic. It is important to still respect that there are many folks facing increased risk. Substance users can have compromised immune systems at times, for a multitude of reasons.... This is a fairly comprehensive and harm reduction based approach to communicating safety protocols for the substance using community during a potential health crisis. (We all know that we are already living and functioning amongst an existing and deadly health crisis..and have been for years. We are an adaptable and resilient community!!) I think it is important to acknowledge that while many of these suggestions make perfect sense..they are not from this region and our care providers may be unwilling or able to accomodate some of these recommendations. Mostly..be safe..take care of each other. Come into Connections and let us know if you need support

Peer employees of PHS are instrumental in saving lives in the face of drug overdose deaths and the opioid crisis. They provide vital community services at the InSite supervised injection site and other overdose prevention sites in the DTES.
