Up Regulating Today I want to share with you a very quick and joyful technique to up-regulate your system when needed for higher states of energy, focus and alertness. The yogis call this one the ‘breath of joy’. I recommend this technique only when you can easily achieve a baseline CO2 tolerance of 25 seconds or longer because it stimulates your sympathetic tone and be disregulating for your nervous system if you haven’t built up capacity yet. ... Down Regulating Today I want to share a very quick and easy way to calm your nervous system when needed. In the previous video on testing your tolerance for carbon dioxide I talked about the value of assessing your baseline. If you tried had a low CO2 tolerance (anything below 25 seconds), this would be a nice technique to raise that number quickly. ... Raising your CO2 tolerance and building more capacity in your nervous system over time is a bigger topic that I’m very interested in. It takes some time and practice to get that number to a healthy level consistently, but sometimes we just need a quick way to sooth and calm our system when we’re stressed. Testing Baseline It can be tricky to know which of the many practices to do for better health, balance and resilience because they might not necessarily be the ones that feel the best or the most intuitive for you. This is why I like to recommend this quick breathing practice that will give you baseline data and whether you need more ‘Up-Regulation’ or ‘Down-Regulation’ in your system. ...
