BREATHING DYSFUNCTION PART I. Changes in pulse rate during an inhale and exhale are very good indicators of your breathing quality as heart rate is directly tied to respiration rate. A normal response is for your pulse rate to INCREASE during INHALE, and DECREASE during EXHALE.... Feel this for yourself. Find your radial pulse on your wrist (see photo above). Feel for a few seconds to get a sense of the pulse rhythm. Continue holding and take a slow deep inhale, noting changes, followed by a slow exhale, noting changes. Once again, a normal response is a slight increase on inhale, followed by a decrease on the exhale. If your pulse stays high during exhale, this is a good indicator that you are not breathing well. Why? Energy efficiency is increased by lowering heart rate during exhalation, as unnecessary heart beats are inhibited during periods of lower oxygenated blood. . . . .
