Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service 18.01.2021

A new partnership between Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Elgin-Middlesex Branch, Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service (SCPS) will provide more effective and appropriate responses to mental health and addictions-related crisis calls in rural areas. This new initiative, known as the Middlesex Crisis Rapid Response Team (MCRRT), has been developed to address a need for mental health, addictions and crisis support in... the rural communities of Middlesex County. Mental health and/or addictions-related calls to Middlesex County OPP and the SCPS combined have increased by 63 per cent in the past three years. Launched November 2019 and supported by provincial government funding, the MCRRT will see two mental health response workers embedded within the Middlesex County OPP and SCPS who accompanies an officer on mental health and addictions-related police calls. The MCRRT mental health response workers, in collaboration with police, will: -Assess, triage, de-escalate and provide resources to individuals in a mental health or addictions-related crisis -Decrease unnecessary emergency department visits or justice involvement -Determine appropriate links to community services and supports -Provide a wellness check 24-48 hours after a crisis occurs -Improve the experience of individuals and their families -Ensure every individual living in the rural community has access to high-quality service, whether in Middlesex County or within First Nations communities -Decrease stigma of individuals living with mental health and/or addictions concerns -Build and maintain effective partnerships between police services and health care partners Individuals who may be experiencing a mental health or addictions crisis can access crisis services in Middlesex County by calling Reach Out 24/7 at 1-866-933-2023, contacting the non-emergent line 1-888-310-1122, or dialing 911. Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service 31.12.2020

The Strathroy Caradoc Police Service and surrounding Police Services continue to investigate a rash of vehicle thefts. Older model Chevrolet Pickup trucks seem to be targeted in many of these thefts. On January 13th, 2020 around 6:00 pm, a silver 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup truck was taken from an address on Longwoods Road in Delaware. In this incident the rear passenger window was smashed out to gain access. The vehicle is a diesel fuel vehicle it has black aftermarket rims (no hup caps) bearing Ontario licence plate AY76 754. On January 16th, 2021 the Strathroy Caradoc Police Service arrested a 34 year old male in relation to a Fraud Under $5000 charge. This incident occurred at the Tim Hortons located at 419 Caradoc Street South. The male was arrested for using a fraudulent, counterfeit $100 American currency bill. The currency had pink Kanji characters written on the bill. SCPS is sharing this information to alert local businesses so they are aware of these new counterfeit bills being used in ...Strathroy-Caradoc. FOLLOW UP TO MEDIA RELEASE FROM JANUARY 9th, 2021 On Friday January 8, 2021, members of the Criminal Investigation Division at Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service with assistance from the SCPS Uniform Division executed a search warrant at an address on Head Street North in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc. A resident of the Head Street address, Shane Smith, was arrested as a passenger in a motor vehicle in possession of firearms and drugs just prior to the execution of the ...search warrant. During the execution of the high-risk firearms related search warrant, officers were met by an aggressive Bull Mastiff Mix dog in the entrance of the home. For officer safety lethal force was exercised on the animal. Three adults and three youths, who reside at the address, were located in the home at the time of the execution of the warrant. Several accessible firearms, ammunition, prohibited weapons, proceeds of crime and drugs were located inside the home and seized by Police. For immediate release: Strathroy-Caradoc November 19, 2020 Strathroy-Caradoc Police warn of potentially deadly fentanyl Strathroy-Caradoc Police are warning the public about a potentially deadly fentanyl being distributed in the area. ... Within the past 24 hours, Strathroy Caradoc Police attended one death suspected as a fentanyl overdose and 3 overdose victims who were saved by naloxone (Naloxone is an opioid antidote). The deceased individual died in hospital after life saving measures and naloxone were unsuccessful. Strathroy-Caradoc Police along with the regional coroner’s office are investigating the circumstances of the individual’s death. It is believed that all 4 people used the same fentanyl and police believe that this batch of fentanyl could be lethal. Overnight Fire Strathroy On November 9th at 12:44 am, The Strathroy Caradoc Police and The Strathroy Caradoc Fire Department received a 911 call for a structure fire at 516 Albert Street Strathroy. The caller advised that there was a fire in one of the apartments on the third floor. The apartment building has 32 units. Strathroy-Caradoc Police with the assistance of OPP evacuated the building. StrathroyCaradoc Fire battled the fire for several hours. Victim Services of Middl...esex contacted The Canadian Red Cross who arranged temporary shelter at a hotel for 15 residents. Other residents went to stay with family or friends. The Ontario Fire Marshall has been contacted, the cause of the fire has not been determined at this time. Damage estimate is unknown at this time. No residents were injured as a result of the fire, a Strathroy-Caradoc Police officer was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation, and has since been released. See more

Poppy Box Theft On November 3rd 2020, the Strathroy-Caradoc Police were notified that a Royal Canadian Legion poppy box filled with donations had been stolen from the downtown Tim Horton's. Investigating officers were able to use video surveillance to identify the suspect. The police investigation has resulted in the arrest of a 43 year old Strathroy woman. The identity of the female cannot be released until the charges are filed with the court.

Stolen Vehicle Between the hours of 5pm and 8am on September 26th to 27th. A red 2001, Chevrolet Silverado pickup, Ontario licence AZ74 348 was stolen from a residence on Sharpe Drive Strathroy. The truck is described as having a higher stance due to a lift kit, dark tinted windows with black rims. There was approximately $1200.00 worth of tools in the truck when it was stolen. Stolen Vehicle(s) Between the hours of 9:30pm and 8am on September 26th to 27th. A black 2000 GMC Yukon XL Ontario licence BRFW 047 was stolen from a residence on Front Street Strathroy. A grey 2005 GMC Jimmy Ontario licence CCSR 638 was also stolen during the same hours and dates from the same area. Fire to parked boat On September 17th at approximately 7:24pm, Strathroy Caradoc Police attended a residence on Glen Oak Road near Scotchmere Drive for a report of a parked boat that was on fire. Strathroy Caradoc Fire put the fire out. No one was injured and there was no damage to any other property. The boat was parked behind a drive shed. Police are treating the fire as suspicious. Attempted break and enter Sometime over the weekend of September 18th to 20th. There was an attempted break and enter to a residence on Thomas street, Mount Brydges. Suspects attempted to pry open the rear door to the residence. Suspects did not gain entry. Break and Enter(s) On August 27th, police attended a Westgate Ave residence for a report of a break and enter. Police learned that sometime overnight the garage was broken into. Several tools were stolen including a carbon monoxide analyzer and an industrial manometer. Estimated value of the theft is over $5000. Mischief to soccer fields Sometime in the overnight hours of August 28th to August 29th, unknown person(s) drove a vehicle onto the soccer fields located at 667 Adair Blvd Strathroy. The driver intentionally caused large ruts. The damage to the field would have to be cut out and new sod placed in, damage estimated at between $1500 and $2000. Media Release Weapons and Drug Seizure from traffic Stop in Strathroy In the early morning hours of September 22 2020, members of the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service Uniform Division commenced an investigation into a suspicious vehicle in the north end of the Municipality. The vehicle was observed by police driving on a north end street just after 3:00 am. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver evaded police however, the vehicle was located a short distan...ce away. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in breach of a release condition and after a confrontation with police, he was arrested and taken into custody. As a result of this investigation, the investigating officers located a loaded pistol, a quantity of drugs and other weapons in the vehicle, and in the males possession. 28 year old Kyle Vandeven of Strathroy has been charged with 24 offences. Those charges include, but are not limited to: Assault a peace officer with a weapon, resist arrest, flight from peace officer, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, being the occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there is a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking x 5, and failing to comply with a release order x3. Scam Alert Police are warning the public to an ongoing email scam. Scammers hack an email account and gain access to the persons contact list. The scammer then sends out an email to all contacts requesting Google play cards / Amazon cards / iTunes cards etc. This could look like a legitimate email form a contact. The scammer may be asking for payment for a birthday present or other type of monetary request. The scammer requests the pin numbers and or photos of the cards. If... you receive an email such as this, contact the sender by another means and verify the email or advise them that their email may be compromised. Police are reminding the public to change their passwords on a regular basis and question the legitimacy of emails requesting payments with gift cards or in these cases Google play cards. Police are seeking assistance in identifying a female in relation to a dog bite incident that occurred at Caradoc Public School located at 714 Bowan Street Mount Brydges. It occurred at approximately 8:30 PM on Tuesday August 25th. The dog owner/walker is described as female, white, in her 70's, 5'5, medium build with red hair. She was believed to be operating a Honda SUV, possible a Honda Element. It was described as being red/orange or gold in colour. ... The female was with 2 dogs that were described as poodles. The injury to the victim were not serious but the vaccination history of the dog is required. Shooting in Downtown Strathroy Update #2 (2020-08-12) Alexandre Allie has been arrested and is in custody. On Wednesday August 12, 2020 at approximately 5:55pm, Allie was in a vehicle that attempted to cross the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie, On into Buffalo, NY. CBSA Officers conducted an investigation and arrested Allie on the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service warrant. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a .22cal revolver and a quantity of drugs. A female with All...ie was also taken into custody. Allie will be held by Niagara Regional Police Service pending a bail hearing on Thursday August 13, 2020. Allie will then be transferred to the custody of investigators from the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service. Allie will then be taken for a bail hearing in London, ON on Friday August 14, 2020. Attempted Murder in Downtown Strathroy Strathroy-Caradoc, ON (2020-08-09) Members of the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service Criminal Investigation Division, with assistance of the Uniform Patrol Division, are investigating after 2 men attended a Strathroy hospital on August 9, 2020 at approximately 6:30pm, suffering ... from gunshot wounds. The two male victims were dropped off at hospital and were admitted with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Both were subsequently transported by ambulance to a London hospital. One male was released and one male was kept for observation. Investigators have determined that the shooting occurred in an alley behind Frank St and a suspect has been identified. The suspect is described as a white male, 22-25 years of age, 5’5, 130lbs, black hair, no shirt. The suspect was last observed running northbound along Frank St. Investigators believe that this was not a random incident. Police are requesting anyone who may work or live in the Frank and Front Streets area that have surveillance cameras to contact investigators. The truck is described as red in colour with silver push bar on the front, Ontario licence AE85243. The truck contained a portable BBQ, pressure washer, and a flat screen TV in the back seat. Arrest made for Prescription Fraud On July 12th 2020, Strathroy Caradoc Police attended a Strathroy Pharmacy for a report of a possible fraud. Investigation revealed that a male had attended the pharmacy on three separate occasions and obtained a large quantity of prescription medications. Staff became suspicious and called police. Police investigation revealed that the male was using a forged prescription and fraudulent identification. The intersection of Metcalfe Street and Caradoc Street is now closed as work on the Caradoc Street Reconstruction Project moves into the area. The closure is expected to last until approximately July 24. All businesses remain open and detour routes are in effect.

Graffiti in local parks Sometime in the overnight hours of Monday July 6th and Tuesday July 7th, unknown suspects used black and white spray paint to paint graffiti on the playground equipment at Alexandra Park, and the playground near the aquatic park on Metcalfe Street east. Clean up costs are approximately $2000.
