Kudos to Vancouver, British Columbia on this step toward zero waste!
Want to make your environmental footprint a little lighter in 2020? Consider Buy Nothing! To find your local group, search 'buy nothing' and your neighborhood's name (such as Buy Nothing Chapparal). The group's purpose is to transfer items that are no longer needed to a new owner - at no charge. Post anything you'd like to give away, lend, or share amongst neighbours. Ask for anything you'd like to receive for free or borrow. Want more details on the Buy Nothing Project?
Engaging a community is always our first step when setting up waste management and recycling programs. A light-hearted, friendly approach makes all the difference in helping people understand the logic behind sustainable solutions.
Want to quickly assess the opinions of a stakeholder group? Feedback frames are a useful tool in S-Cubed's public engagement sessions. http://www.s-cubed.ca/feedback-frames/
Waste diversion in action. Yahoo and well done, Calgary Stampede!
There's nothing like numbers to show the effects of waste diversion. Great use of data by the City of Calgary Your Local Government. All of the blue cart recycling collected over the past 10 years would fill the Bow Building eight times!
Summer is here, and with it comes picnic season! Instead of taking disposable dishes on your next outdoor adventure, plan ahead by preparing your own zero-waste picnic basket.
At S-Cubed, we love to bring people together to collaborative on great solutions, and Vermilion's public engagement program allowed us to do just that.

Shout-out to Theatre Calgary for taking action to reduce waste - audience members now sip beverages from compostable cups at intermission!
Ever wondered how you can divert more waste at your workplace? Here's answers.
What should you do with parchment paper once you're done using it? It can be composted, so add it to your kitchen catcher along with your other organics.
Adding a little humour into our presentations always helps win people over! We work with clients to develop campaigns that align with their existing materials. This kitchen catcher illustration is very similar to campaign materials already in use by an Albertan municipality.
We find that presenting waste audit results visually can help people to understand complex data. This stacked bar chart graphic for an S-Cubed engagement on waste, developed from an existing bin logo, shows how much material headed to the landfill could actually be diverted elsewhere.
