How did you meet Pan? The Nutcracker? Friday night outreach? Danger Bay? Nights Alive? The Skate Park? Fire-spinning? Making stilts, juggling or circus camp? The list goes on. Pan has been a youth worker on the coast for as long as we can remember. This summer he is off on a new adventure on Vancouver Island with his family. Our team and this community are so grateful for Pan ... his magical personality, his flare for costumes, his gift for listening and warm personality. He could connect with everyone! We miss you already, Peter Pan! How did you know Pan? Leave some kind words in the comments below! @ Sunshine Coast BC Canada

During the month of June we’re highlighting pieces from Indigenous artists with messages of care and hope for Indigenous youth. This piece was created by Mia Oh...ki (Mia Ohki Illustrations ), a Métis-Japanese-Canadian artist. An Indigenous youth sits with a bearskin blanket wrapped around their shoulders while mother bears calmly protect them and their own cubs. A handprint is painted across their face to draw attention to Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. "Researchers have reported that Indigenous women and girls are 12 times more likely to be murdered or missing than other women in Canada, and 16 times more likely than Caucasian women. Indigenous women are sexually assaulted three times more often than non-Indigenous women, and most of the women and children trafficked in Canada are Indigenous." - from nwac.ca, "MMIWG Fact Sheet" July 25, 2019 The symbol of the bear in Indigenous stories frequently means healing, family and courage. Bears are often seen as the protector of the forest because they fiercely defend their young, and wearing a part of a bear may bring spiritual strength and protection. #IndigenousHistoryMonth
