Test-Drive the Trades with YES 2 IT! School District No. 27, Cariboo-Chilcotin, together with its industry partners, Taseko/Gibraltar Mines, Mount Polley Mines (Imperial Metals) and The School of Trades (Thompson Rivers University- WL), create YES 2 IT events for grade 7 students from district elementary schools. The community partners have developed a number of trades’ related activities for the students taking part in the event. Students work with apprentice/trainees, trade...s instructors and trade specific journey persons, rotating through the following areas: Carpentry, Welding, Electrical, Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Duty Mechanics, and Millwright Each activity will provide the students with the opportunity to learn more about a specific trade from the skilled trade persons in each workshop finding out about training programs within the trades and leave with projects created in their respective workshops. They will also be engaged in developing an understanding of the importance of safety in the trades.
