Each month we feature a school in School District 43 - Coquitlam For December, the ‘School of the Month’ is Baker Drive Elementary. Baker Drive Elementary: Little School in the Woods. Home to the Baker Bears Brown, Black, Grizzly and Spirit the Baker Drive Learning Community prides itself on being a fully inclusive dual track; Neighbourhood and Montessori K-5 BC Public School. With an immersive outdoor learning classroom, and a clear vision as a caring learning community... with highly educated and highly involved teachers, administration, and support staff we hold high expectations for our learners to be compassionate, curious and engaged as a community of readers, thinkers, and difference-makers. Parents are highly involved in both the school community and individual classrooms. With a total school population at just over 200 that is evenly divided between Neighbourhood and Montessori classrooms there is some space in both programs particularly at the intermediate level. Montessori Philosophy: Allows children to make choices about their own learning, encouraging independence and self-initiative Respects the uniqueness of each child thereby inspiring each child to develop as individuals to their fullest potential Provides an atmosphere that nurtures an enthusiasm for learning and promotes a strong work ethic Allows for uninterrupted time for children to work with the natural materials in their own way, independently or in small groups Fosters curiosity and creativity through an inquiry and exploring mindset with an eye to promoting independent thinking Supports engagement with the natural world with attention paid to sustainability and environmental awareness #mycoquitlamed #studyabroad #intled #studyinbc #studyincanada #vancouver Click in our bio to learn more and register for this school!
