Finally! Environment Canada Says This Is The Last Week Of Winter Weather Before Spring And you haven't called SDBI COMPLETE Property Maintenance... to book your yard work yet....?? Canada has seen some pretty rough weather in the last few weeks. This isn't abnormal as it is winter in Canada, after all, but we are all looking forward to feeling actual warmth from the sun's rays. Thankfully, Environment Canada has given us something to look forward to. According to a senior climatologist for Environment Canada and the National Post, the upcoming cold snap this week is that last one that Canadians will endure before spring. Warmer days are on the way, Canada! Unfortunately, most of the country still has to contend with a polar vortex this week. Much of Canada has been in the throes of an intense cold front. The prairies in particular have experienced cold weather that has dipped below minus forty.

De-Gunk Your Gutters Clogged rain gutters can cause ice dams, which can lead to expensive repairs. After the leaves have fallen, clean your gutters to remove leaves, twigs, and gunk. Make sure gutters aren’t sagging and trapping water; tighten gutter hangers and downspout brackets. Replace any worn or damaged gutters and downspouts. If you find colored grit from asphalt roof shingles in your gutters, beware. That sand-like grit helps protect shingles from the damaging ultravi...olet rays of the sun. Look for other signs of roof damage; it may be time for a roofing replacement. Your downspouts should extend at least 5 feet away from your house to prevent foundation problems. If they don’t, add downspout extensions; $10 to $20 each.
Remove Garden Hoses From Faucets Remove garden hoses from outdoor faucets. Leaving hoses attached can cause water to back up in the faucets and in the plumbing pipes just inside your exterior walls. If freezing temps hit, that water could freeze, expand, and crack the faucet or pipes. Make this an early fall priority so a sudden cold snap doesn’t sneak up and cause damage. Turn off any shutoff valves on water supply lines that lead to exterior faucets. That way, you’ll guard ...against minor leaks that may let water enter the faucet. While you’re at it, drain garden hoses and store them in a shed or garage.
How to close and protect the cottage for the winter We may not be fully prepared for it, but summer is coming to an end. It will soon be time to close the cottage for the winter. Winterizing your cottage is an important chore to avoid bad surprises in the spring. ... Here are a few tips that will give you peace of mind: Vermin and insects Mouse in a cottage Remove all the food from the kitchen to avoid attracting insects or small animals. Pests will not hesitate to come inside to keep warm during the winter. Using traps is a good idea to protect your cottage. You can also use a spray which repels animals with its taste. This will help keep them at bay. Outdoors Cottage view from outside It is recommended to carefully inspect the roof, chimney, foundations and gutters to identify possible problems. Caulk up cracks, and block up any access to the chimney and vents to prevent small animals from entering. Trim the branches that are too close to the cottage so they don't cause any damage when the weather is bad. Indoors Store bed sheets in airtight plastic bags or containers to protect them from the humidity. Do not leave anything valuable in the cottage (eg.: electronic devices, jewels). Leave the curtains open to show there is nothing interesting for robbers. Disconnect all electric devices and turn off the heat and power. This way, it will be easier to start it all up next spring. Turn off the water and empty your water heater and pipes to prevent the formation of ice, which could cause them to burst. Add antifreeze in the sink, bath, shower, toilet bowl and dishwasher. Disconnect electric devices if you're not turning off the power. Clean the fridge and leave the door open to prevent unpleasant odours from building up. Last steps Lock all doors and windows. If you trust your neighbours, give them your phone number so they can reach you in case of an emergency, and leave a key with them just in case. Finally, contact your insurance company to let them know the cottage will be uninhabited during the winter.
The Robins need our help. Because of all this April snow, they're having a hard time finding their favourite mealworms. Little known fact - robins do not eat... seed. But if you're looking to help them.. they do like chopped up fruit - apples, blueberries, cranberries and strawberries. They also enjoy suet, crushed peanuts, raisins and ....small amounts of grated mild cheese. Who knew? Just be careful of attracting bears if you live outside city limits. See more
We created this video out of frustration, if you follow us you will see we have tried being serious, tried being funny, even tried a love song. This is our fig...ht song - 3 months in to the year and we have already had 18 fire fatalities. The common denominator in them? No working smoke alarms. Make sure your home is safe, your friend's homes are safe, your community is safe. Don't accept anything except working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms anywhere. Look up and Speak up! #DoItForYou #EnoughAlready See more
A little extra work for SDBI COMPLETE Property Maintenance on a sunny Saturday morning! Thx to the snatch and grab at the mall...
This pile of junk, including a child's bed and a computer desk has been dumped in front of the new Markdale Agricultural Society storage building beside the Mar...kdale Complex. The new steel on the building was damaged in the process of dumping it there. I'm not sure why anyone would think this is a proper way to dispose of items like this. Most likely too cheap to pay for disposal. We've been told the same pile of junk was seen in a driveway on Main Street across from Edith Avenue. If this belongs to you, it would be a good idea to come and pick it up and dispose of it properly. See more
