An outbreak has been declared at Wapanohk Community School as released in today’s news media - #329 . The school has been moved to Critical (red) on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System. In this case, there continues to be high activity in households that have school aged children that attend school, which led to public health deciding to declare an outbreak. An outbreak was not declared due to school transmission. Public health has seen a high rate of activity in this p...articular neighborhood in Thompson with several cases in students over the past month related to household transmission. This has left many students out of school self isolating and many others participating in remote learning. Declaring an outbreak is a way public health can formally support Wapanohk Community School’s early efforts to address rising community cases by shifting to remote learning since mid-January. Fortunately, the school was moved to remote learning on January 18th. We have extended the remote learning until February 5 and will re-evaluate at that time. In the summer all of our schools created response plans for each level - yellow, orange and red. Full remote learning was included in the critical red. At this time, the school will continue to operate as planned with the remote learning. If any parent has any questions, please reach out to the school. Each of the teachers have created a communication plan for their class. We ask that everyone continue to follow public health protocols and if they are experiencing any symptoms or have questions, please call health links @ 1-888-315-9257. Take care and be safe.
