The Delta School District invites families and staff to attend a livestream presentation on internet safety by social media educator Jesse Miller on Wednesday, September 30 from 7:00 8:30 p.m. As school systems around the world scrambled in the spring of 2020, screen time proved it can be a useful tool for teaching and learning. With a new school year beginning, we want to pause and consider the role that technology plays in our lives as parents, children, teachers and l...earners. This presentation will engage in current thinking about youth, technology and social media, while sharing ideas and supports to help your family consider balanced technology use in the home. Attendees have the opportunity to send in questions and topics for discussion ahead of time.

With the close of the school year, SDSS recognizes students for their outstanding successes and achievements. Congratulations to our Award winners for 2019-2020! Honour Roll, Principal’s List, G Club, Service Awards, and Fine Arts Awards all appear on final report cards. Students and parents can also check under the ‘Activity Tab’ in Connect. @SDSSSundevils benefit from the generosity of our many scholarship donors and community partners who have wisely chosen to invest in our young scholars and leaders as they set out to pursue their post-secondary and life goals. South Delta is a community whose elders demonstrate caring and compassion and the wisdom of supporting our young people. This June, more than 60 graduates received awards from local organizations and individual scholarship donors. This is just a part of the of the scholarship recognition that SDSS students have achieved as many, many of our 2020 graduates have earned post secondary entrance awards and national scholarships, over and above what was included in our Valedictory program. @SDSSSundevils congratulate Ms. Tamara Jobke and Ms. Lisa Fraser on their retirement! Ms. Jobke has been at SDSS since 1990 teaching Physical Education. For the past several years, she has been the teacher coordinator for the Delta Hockey Academy. Ms. Fraser has taught English and PE at SDSS since 2009. Both have been outstanding @deltasd37 educators! Thank you for your amazing commitment and service to the young people of Delta and for the support that you have provided to colleagues! We'll miss you!

@SDSSSundevils Virtual Valedictory Production Day is complete! Thanks to the SDSS Community for coming together to make this a special day for students. Mark your calendars! We have a date and time for the Premiere of our 2020 Graduation Ceremony! Tune in at 7pm on Friday, July 3 to watch our grads cross the stage. Please look out for the video link for the Grad 2020 premiere - we’ll post it here and send it to families the week of June 29.... We know many of you were disappointed not to be able to see your grad cross the stage in person, but we hope you’ll take this opportunity to make the 2020 Grad Premiere a memorable event for your family. We encourage you to hold a viewing party, get dressed up and celebrate in style all the while respecting the provincial physical distancing and maximum gathering requirements currently in place. Congratulations to @SDSSSundevils Aida Chubbs! Aida has been selected as Valedictorian for the SDSS Class of 2020. Aida will have the honour of making the Valedictory Address during South Delta's Virtual Valedictory Ceremony later this month. The event will be broadcast at a date to be announced. Way to go, Aida! Message to SDSS Grade 12s By order of the Provincial Health Officer, gatherings in excess of 50 people are prohibited. Concerts, sports, events, and community gatherings have all been impacted. It is widely expected that this order will be carried well into the summer. With graduation on the horizon, schools across the province are working towards creating a safe alternative to honor their grads. Mr. Ainge has a message to SDSS grade 12s about graduation.
