St. David's United Church 15.01.2021

It's about to begin... 2021 and, on Sunday morning (ZOOM), we will be "Taking a Breath" with Rev. Debbie Stockdale. Her note to the congregation invited us, before looking ahead, to pause a moment to rest in the blessings of Christmas - the hope brought with the birth of a tiny baby in the midst of uncertain times. "Mary took a moment to ponder in the midst of all the activity around her and we will too. I hope you will join us as we explore and discover together blessings and sources of hope to sustain us in the coming year." If you would like to take part in the ZOOM service, just let me know ([email protected]) and I will send you an invitation or you might ask anyone that you know at St. David's to invite you to join us. See you there.

Excitement is building as we approach Christmas Eve at St. David’s. Tomorrow at 10 am we will be hosting a 10 am breakfast fun time together with cookie baking, waffle making and pork pancake baking happening at 9:30 followed by an interactive program at 10 am. We will be singing favourite Christmas songs, hearing Christmas stories, and sharing our favourite family traditions. If you would like to join us on zoom, contact your favourite St. Davidian for your invitation. At ...7pm, we will be gathering again for our Candle light Christmas Eve Service. This time-honoured Christmas tradition, so much an integral part of our Christmas season, promises to be a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community. If you know folks who might like to join with us on Zoom, you can share your invitation which is waiting for you in your email mailbox. Check your email for your Zoom invitation. If by chance it’s not there, contact the church or [email protected]. See more

This morning, Dec. 6, 2020, we had nearly 100 computers on line to take part in our Advent Series,"I believe even when...." On this Second Sunday of Advent, our guest speaker was Brenda McQueen, president of the Morley McDougall Society. The candle focussed upon today was the Candle of Love and Brenda's Reflection was entitled, "Love in Action." Rev. Peggy, Brent, Mike and Diane along with Ruth and Heather brought this service into fruition. Tech crew of Tapas, Deb, Brenda ...and Dave looked after the technical side of things. More "Love in Action." If you visit St. David's, take note of the new Christmas lights adorning the sanctuary windows. (Thank you, Peter) Also, visit the Prayer Tree that is found on the grounds. Add your prayer to our little tree. Our news letter for December has been emailed. Take note of the special services at Christmas and remember to check out the webpage at sduc.ca to view today's youtube. See more

Candles, in Advent wreathes throughout our community, were lit on Sunday morning, marking the First Sunday of Advent. The candle for Hope was lit at church while many of us lit the Hope candle in our homes while following the service on Zoom. The sanctuary was lit by candles as the Hope candle was brought forward. This Advent will be anchored by a sermon series entitled I believe even when... with Rev. Peggy McDonagh. We would love to have you join with our church community for the Second Sunday of Advent.

As November draws to a close, so, too, does the church year from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. We will be holding our Annual General Meeting after service On ZOOM Sunday, November 22, 2020. As well, this weekend, on Saturday, November 21, 2020, we will be celebrating the life of Bonnae McTavish whose service to St. David's over many years has helped make it the wonderful community that it is. Our thoughts and prayers are with the McTavish family at this time. Rev. Peggy McDonagh will be sharing with us the fifth in her series on "Beguiled by Beauty." You can follow her uplifting messages by visiting sduc.ca/Sermons.
